I put a rush on these and they are not quite up to my standard, especially the horses. But one step closer to Ligny/Wavre/Placenoit.

Nice pics.

Would I be right in assuming that the French Lancers are 6mm Adler miniatures? And if they are, would I also be right in assuming that you have altered the lances to the upright pose rather than the charge pose they usually come in?

They certainly are not Adler, blimey the horses show that surely! lol

And here's me thinking you had done some really neat work with those lances, albeit the poles looks fairly thick. LOL

Other than obtaining some samples a while back, I am not that familiar with Baccus miniatures.

Anyway, talking of lancers, chance of producing any Adler lancers with the lances upright rather than in the charge position? (I have to ask)

Hello I Drink Your Milkshake!

Your lancers look fabulous. I painted them some two years ago for my 1815 campaign and greatly enjoyed it. They were certainly one of my favourite projects.

Best regards,

Glenn

Gazzola,
Lancers with upright lances are very tricky, you can end up with short lances that are very thick and chunky to be castable. As always with these things its a compromise. Will probably go for an experimental fix of seperate lances when the Gd Cav get redone next year but I suspect its not going to sell very well as it requires a bit of work to sort at the customer end.

Yes, I can see that they look odd and too thick in the pics of the Baccus mins. That's why I thought they had been homemade or altered by the owners.

If you do have a go, I for one would welcome them and don't mind a bit of work. It would be really great to have some Adler lancers in different poses.

But I can also see the possible problem of not selling well, although, as I say, I would certainly buy them. Could this suggest some kind of specialist/limited range as a possibility? The prices would obviously be much higher but I think many 6mm wargamers, who may have already obtained their mass armies, may be looking for something different and possibly challenging? It is just a thought anyway.

Hello Gazzola!

The pictures do distort the figures and their lances. Are the lances on the thick side, yes, but for good reason. They are very well designed for fast painting, durability and with excellent detail. I've painted other 6mm lancers and even 25mm lancers that were too thin, frail and easily broken. Every Baccus lancer that I have (about 350) still have their lances, not one has even been bent, when I first got them or during handling. They are without question some of the best figures in my multi-figure collection of over 40,000 6mm figures and 5,000 25mm figures. I even have some of Baccus first generation lancers that were just as good as the ones you see in the photos.

Best regards,

Glenn

Yes, I can imagine it would take a direct cannonball hit to break those lance poles. LOL

I also have several thousand 6mm miniatures, along with the odd thousand yet-to-be-painted. But in terms of other same scale manufacturers and their lances, bayonets, swords etc, I've not really had that much of a problem. Of course, because they are more realistic looking you do have to be more careful, so if you are not careful you will suffer breakages. And I also use Humbrol paints which put on a thicker layer of paint so I don't need thick poles. But, as careful as one can be, breakages do happen and I always buy more miniatures than I need. And being 6mm if they do break it is quite easy to glue the broken bit back on, which might not be practicable with larger scale, although I imagine not impossible.

Anyway, it does not really matter what floats your boat in terms of 6mm manufacturers (or any other scale), as long as they suit your needs and you enjoy painting, basing and playing them. Baccus are certainly not my cup of tea, or my fellow wargamers, but you sound really happy with them and that is what matters. But I do hope Adler bring out some new lancers with different poses. I'll be waiting.

Hello Gazzola!

Actually, I just had a closer look at some of my Baccus figures and think the lances are just perfect, not too thick at all. So I can only say it's all in the eyes of the beholder, and perhaps some pictures.

I also think all of the 6mm manufactures are producing first class realistic looking figures. They all just have different styles that cater to different customers. Some designs are however, simply more prone to damage then others.

Yes, I'm very happy with Baccus figures. They match my expectations perfectly. They are also very popular with a number of my friends and fellow wargamers on a number of forums.

I'm certainly with you in hoping that Leon manages to produce some lancers that meet your desires. He is a first rate sculptor/designer and works extremely hard at doing his best to satisfy his customers.

Best regards,

Glenn

No, my Adler lancers are more perfect than your Baccus lancers! LOL

It is obviously a matter of personal taste. And our own preferences are all that matters. Myself and fellow wargamers prefer Adler, you and your fellow wargamers prefer Baccus, which I imagine can only be good for the 6mm market.

But in terms of all 6mm manufacturers, yes, I agree, they are superb in what they all offer. And some of the details offered is incredible, especially (in my opinion) on the Adler miniatures, which is why I buy them. But as I said before, any miniature is prone to damage if the owners are not careful enough. As you will no doubt be aware, you have to love the little blighters and treat them with care. Saying that, the amount of times I have dropped some of my painted miniatures and expected the worse, only to discover only the odd bent bayonet or sabre. Tough and beautiful, they are.

You say they match your expectations. Yes, that is the key, and I guess we all have different expectations. But detail and expectations aside, having fun and enjoying wargaming with them is what really counts. And I think we are both are happy in that department.

In terms of Leon, I think he is probably fed up with me asking can he produce this unit or that unit. He has to think of the market while I'm think, hey, they would look good etc. LOL

Anyway, Glenn, enjoying your wargaming.
