I have just posted a "Barbarian Gallery" at the blog. These are recently painted and have been used for my current test games. More later.

Look good. As to the reference to differentiating by shields. did you have a historical reference as to differing colors or patterns, or just chose a particular style from the basic Dark age/Germanic range for each tribe/nation? Nice bit on the figure modification – haven't done much of that with my OG figures, but did do some with some of the Essex Han convict troops. Having 7 identical poses on Horde element seemed a bit much… |

Referencing the shields, I made an interpolation based on Phil's Armies and Enemies of Rome. The Frankish shields have six reinforcements radiating from its centre, so I gave the Burgundi four. Using the clothing colour as a reference, I either lightened or deepen the shield ground colour; this added more variation. The Tervingi wear very light or linen colour clothing. The modification of the figures was quite a bit of work, but worth the effort when I look now at the photos. The armies will be featured in the next series of posts presenting the stratagems we use for the campaign rule set. |
