I like Rall. NOT "von" Rall just plain Rall. The regiment was a standing grenadier regiment, and not a converged grenadier battalion. It also had a company that was detached to join another converged grenadier battalion. I like that. It's so confusing. To be "authentic", you must have figures with no lapels. Perry makes dedicated Rall figures, but before that I bought a whole passel of Foundry Frei Korps grenadiers without lapels. I'm quite proud of that. During the war, they did solid if not spectacular service. At Trenton, despite popular belief, they were NOT drunk. Just surprised. After Trenton, the Landgrave of Hess was so upset by the debacle that he convened a court of inquiry. Predictably, they blamed all the dead officers (specifically Rall but including others) and exonerated the living. What's not to like? |

And I will bend the definition of "regiment" to include Jaegers and converged grenadier battalions. Just name them. And say why you like them too. Brief history and all that. |

Dragoon Regiment Prinz Ludwig Because I need these to finish my Saratoga Hessians. I have the rest finished and just need these. I've asked before and forgot. What castings do you use for these? |
rmaker | 09 Dec 2016 8:46 p.m. PST |
DR Prinz Ludwig were not Hessians, but Brunswickers. The only Hessians at Saratoga were Hesse-Hanau IR Erbprinz. |
Rich Bliss | 09 Dec 2016 8:50 p.m. PST |
And Hess-Hanau Artillerists. My favorite Hessians. |

Von Bose. Great speakers. |

Bill, I used old school Hinchliffe for my Prinz Ludwig dismounted dragons. With the 12lb boots. |
Winston Smith | 09 Dec 2016 10:35 p.m. PST |
Oh, go ahead and nominate "other" Germans. Brunswick, Waldeck, etc. |

The Hesse-Cassel Landgrenadier-Regiment Rall I found very interesting because it needs some researching to find out how they probably looked at Trenton. The results of my endeavours can be seen at my blog: link |

I like Rall for giving us enough weapons to arm a regiment, and all their stores and food! |

And did absolutely no fighting. Definitely my kind of unit. |

I would ague the no fighting part – I read there was a big dust-up when the Christmas goose was overcooked . You have to love a ruler whose older sister was Catherine the Great . |

Winston Smith | 12 Dec 2016 2:31 p.m. PST |
That would be simply Erbprinz. No V or Von. |

Which is to say that "Hessians" are a complicated subject. It's a subject where one can take pride in sifting through all the data, true and not so true, and coming up with what you feel is the best representation. Just as an example, there were 2 Hesses. Good thing they were never in the same theatre. Heads would explode. |

If this ever becomes a poll, I can see fans whining, "Why no mention of Waldeck?" Oops. I just did. |
