I have seen several illustrations where some Spanish were wearing blue checked trousers

Anyone know if other colours of checks were worn, or just blue ?

Would the trousers have been common enough that other troops, such as British and French could have sourced them locally and be seen wearing them, instead of brown replacements ?

Thanks

John

Most of the illustrations I have seen "where some Spanish were wearing blue checked trousers" seem to be based on Suhr. They are undoubtedly of civil origin and are repeated in multiple figures in that collection, indicating that they not merely a personal variant. Bueno describes them as "truly curious" which suggests to me that they were not common in Spain. So I wonder whether these were just something the Spanish picked up for wearing in Northern climates or whether they were really even used in the Peninsula.
