My erstwhile opponent and I got together to try Retro Raygun from Hydra Miniatures for the first time yesterday. In short, it was a blast! No pun intended. Gorgeous minis, quick playing and easy-to-grasp rules all in a Flash Gordon-like setting complete with heroic Galacteers and tough as nails (bolts?) robot legions. What's not to like? More here: link

Since you have played both…what are the main differences between Fantastic Worlds and Retro Raygun rules? |

I have looked at the Retro Raygun rule book and my best friend wrote (and owns) Fantastic Worlds so I can say it appears RR is more of a squad/mass combat game while FW is an RPG-lite small skirmish system. Both are great! |

Actually I haven't played Fantastic Worlds. But I can say RR is a squad-based combat game, with heroes available to spice things up. Heroes can act either on their own, or can be attached to squads to provide certain advantages, like extra dice, etc. |

Thanks for sharing the report and photos, MacSparty! I'm slowly building my Retro Raygun forces (bit by bit, sale by sale), and am a fan of Hydra Miniatures. It's good to see the figures in action! |

I ran a Retro SciFi game with THW's "Future Tales" rules at MillenniumCom last month using The Hydra figures; IMO they're excellent miniatures--perfectly proportioned heads, faces, hands, bodies. Of course, the men look like body builders & the women like swimsuit models, but that's Pulp cover style as it should be. Their weapons are a reasonable size, & the robots are perfidiously perfect. |

I keep wanting to buy these models but keep telling myself I need to finish something first. I note that I've just missed the sale, again! |

Thank you Nazrat for the compare. Sounds like RR is what I have been looking for. |
