Swedish Defence Research Agency has published a report on Russian military capabilities.

Overall conclusion is growing capability including offensive capability.

Good insight on to how the Russians think both in terms of security and how the world works. Suffice to say it's very different to Western concepts and most certainly not driven by economics. Also interestingly that despite economic contraction, Russian defence spending grew 18% in real terms in 2015.

Deadles, was that 18% growth caused by the economic contraction? Ie, they spent the same as the previous year, but as the economy was smaller, the amount was a larger percentage?

No they've spent 18% more than previous year.

They must have redirected funding from other programs to defence.
