Good day hive, I'm working on some 25/28mm OG French Marines from their Boxer Rebellion line. The research I've found thus far shows them in all white, white pants with blue jacket, blue pants with khaki jacket and the Osprey book about the Boxer Rebellion shows them in a light or sky blue. Can anyone lead me in the right direction as to how to paint up these figs? I'm also planning on painting up some French sailors for the Boxer Rebellion as well if anyone has any suggestions other than the standard all white for these too. I plan on using them for the Boxer Rebellion and maybe Africa. Cheers, JB |

I painted mine all blue, using a color a bit darker than sky blue and a little more gray. I have a couple photos supposedly taken around the time, showing them in all one color, though B&W photos of course. I haven't looked at them in several years,so will have to check my French Sailors, I think I painted them in all white though. If you do a "boxer rebellion" Ebay search for post cards, stereo cards, etc. you may references that help. |

Mine are all blue as well. I believe that the white pants were optional later in the time period. |

Blue = full dress or heavy cold weather. White undress otherwise. I don't have my books handy, but in summer whether in Madagascar or Africa all whitish in service dress. Btw marins? From ships as those in Legation? Or colonial troupes de marines? Anyway whitish. If see blue beware of pictures in full nice dress. Like Sunday. Several pics from news on internet also show them white. Many other legations wore white too. On site of historical assoc of troupes de marine : pic of entrance of Tiensin garrison All in white. 16 th coloniale inf. Rgt. 1900 Can try ask them if more needed. Next year will go there. |

Jeff, I have somewhere the regs for them from 1870-1910 . I know they had a Lt. blue/grey field uniform for a while ,a white work/landing uniform and later a Lt. Khaki uniform . Will keep my eyes open for it ! |

Thank you Lilian, et all, I think I'm going to paint this unit in the Boxer Rebellion light blue and the next unit in khaki. That should work for this game and any future Boxer Rebellion games. Cheers, JB |
