Thinking of building a force for the period 1808 to 1811. Infantry not a problem, Redline do very nice figures in stovepipe shako and thay also have suitable artillery. The cavalry however are in the 1812 to 1815 uniforms and although Si is thinking about adding some next year, that is likely to be a long wait. I have found light dragoons in Tarleton helmet, Heavy cavalry in bicorne etc on Magister Militum's website and in Old Glory's Grand Scale range. They seem to be much bulkier than Redline figures, nearer 12 mm than 10 mm and with slightly big heads. Does anyone know of any other ranges that would suit ( not GHQ, too small and fragile as well as ridiculously expensive)? Pendraken seem to have concentrtaed on Waterloo period for their British, although they do have an 1809 French range.

I can't recommend anything other than Pendraken. Best proportions and right level of detail for that scale in my opinion.

Not sure I agree about proportions, although I have hundreds, if not thousands, of their LoA, WSS and medieval figures. I would happily buy them if they had the right figures, but all of their British are for later Napoleonic Wars. I believe they used to have a Peninsular range, but they were old sculpts and are no longer listed. Think it mighthave to be the Old Glory, at least until Si gets to work.

I had the same choice and went with Old Glory 10mm for British cavalry. They are well proportioned and not fragile (for 10mm) and paint up really well. I ended up using Old Glory for all my British cavalry because I liked them so much.

The only slight issue is that the riders are separate from the horses and it takes a few more minutes prep time before you can start painting.

Thanks Bandolier. I have some of the Old Glory WSS infantry, which are OK, although I am not keen on the strips. Gluing riders to horses is not an issue for me. I think it actually gives a slightly better look to the figure re, as long as there is a good fit between rider and saddle.

Keep in mind that the OG cavalry are bigger than Pendraken. I can squeeze 5 of the latter into a 1 and 1/2 inch frontage, but only 4 OG. This is partly because of the separate riders, but also the horses are just bigger. I do really like the variety of horse poses with OG,though.

BTW,the infantry strips are what keeps me with OG,for the most part, except for some fill-ins. I would hate to have to handle hundreds of individual 10mms. I wish they would do Austerlitz figures. And complete the SYW!
