This goes up and dowm the East River a lot. By the look I first thought the boxes were data storage units, except they would be plugged in and send their data by wire. I have no idea what these things are. Any ideas?

Right, nothing to do with miniatures. Just hoping the hive-mind has an answer.

Oh yes, they are on a barge and a tug is behind.

My guess would be Alien Containment units. They only WANT you to think they are data storage units!

Damon.

Up and down, you say. So the structure is not the element being delivered. OK.

Q.1 Do they look exactly the same as the photograph going each way?

We will identify this for you.

based on seeing them there . I believe they are going up to The Tappan Zee bridge construction.
Likely just transportation/shipping units .

The BORG.

They look exactly the same going each way.

Tappan Zee? Wonder what's inside? I'd think they might rather go up the Hudson since Hell Gate is kind of tricky and the Harlem River is narrow and winding. But then I'm not a tugboat skipper.

They look like shipping containers to me.

Agree they look like shipping containers.
From the anti fouling line, the barge is sitting quite high in the wateri in that pic, which would suggest they are fairly empty.
Does it sit lower when it's going the other way?

They look like shipping containers to me as well.

Small shipping containers, notice the ribbing on them for structural support.

Mako1130 Nov 2016 12:25 p.m. PST

They look too tall and narrow to me.

IIRC, some companies were creating APUs on barges like that, and/or data storage banks like the NSA has.

I think these might be a bit more likely than cargo containers, but perhaps they've come out with some new, shorter, taller, narrower ones than I'm aware of.

Not sure why they'd do that though, since that seems impractical, and rather tippy.

Does it sit lower when it's going the other way?

I'll try and be more observant.

The "ribbing" seems more like a crib to contain them.
