Probably the whole world knows this … but I only found out opening a box up after visiting Warfare …

Zvezda have replaced the awful 'bend and clip' engine cover on the Zis sprue with a more conventional and user friendly 3 pop on panels …

I only bought Katyusha models but I assume the basic Zis 5 will get this sprue also (they are common parts) …

Needless to say it goes together nicely and in seconds.

I'm guessing it also shows they listen to customers.

This is probably old news but it came as a nice surprise to me.

Thank goodness! After assembling a dozen of the old style ones can say this is very welcome. Thanks for the info Phil.

I didn't know Phil so another thanks from me, I guess my SCW Republican flying column will be getting motorised soon. ;)

I can't say for sure that this improvement applies to the basic Zis 5, of course (but it would be odd if not, given it is a common problem with what is a shared chassis sprue) – perhaps someone can confirm if/when they get one?

The only difference I noticed with the Katyusha kit was that the sprues were in a plastic bag inside the box rather than loose. There will probably be a number of earlier production models around so it may be hit and miss. I may just have got lucky and got newer ones.

You can never have too many trucks.

The basic Zis 5 has the new improved engine cover. I have four of them.

Thanks Lee John Ayre – that's good to know.

Indeed, Chris at NQM commented on the blog that after reading the post he opened up a batch of Zis-5s he had ordered in October and was pleased to find the improved version – so they are out there wink
