I have two questions about the 28mm hard plastic hoplites by victrix and hope somebody can help me…………

1…. Are there enough upright spear arms provided so that all hoplites can have upright spears or do some have to be pointing forward?mi want my hoplites with upright spears.

2….. Does anyone find the plastic spears break too easy? Is this a problem or not?

Thank you anybody who can help.

Plastic Pikes snap for fun I'm sure the spears are the same, use pins there easy to get hold of or buy cast spears like we sell at Lancashire Games or many other manufacturers

The best spears and pikes I have ever seen are made from hypodermic needles.

Various lengths and diameters and very strong and – where the tip is cut at an angle – a tap with a hammer forms a perfectleaf shaped blade. Just take an emery board to the tip before use to avoid stabbing yourself.

Thanks for this. I usually use brass rod so was just curious.

Any one know the answer to the upright spear question?

I've never had any break during a game. Had about half a dozen break transporting them home after a convention. They got a good jolt coming off of a curb in Sundance Square in Ft. Worth. They all snapped off at the hand, so it was an easy repair.

You can use them all in an upright position, but some of the arms when rotated hold the spear at more of an angle than straight up and down.

Here's a picture of some of the Spartans. There's a couple of Black Tree Design figures on the base as well.

As @Atomic Flooxy said, all the spear arms can hold the spear upright since the spears are separate. You just need to angle them correctly.

Aventine make very good cast hoplite spears which include a sarouter and wrapped hand grip.

Yes, they're easy to get hold of. But in my experience they are potentially lethal – or at least fairly dangerous in the hands of toy soldiers …

I have lots of plastic Napoleonics from Victrix and Perry that haven't broken. I'm sure that the bayonets are more fragile than spears. For that mater, all of my standard bearers are fine. Metal (lead) would have dented and been impossible to repair had they fallen from the same height.
Regards metal spears: I rather like 'man dolls' that can defend themselves from club-handed gamers!

i have assembled and painted several boxes of the Victrix Hoplites, there are some arms amongst them that require the spear to be carried in an overarm thrusting motion , however what i did was a small amount of cutting and re-glui9ng at the wrist which allowed me to make all of them with spears upright ,, the wrist is wearing some form of bracelet so the join can be hidden.
Broken spears ? yes a few of them have broken but not hard to fix,,, if I was doing it again I would use wire spears , cheers Tom
