Could anyone suggest a good set of 10mm Sci fi rules (mixed infantry and vehicles) and figures?

It depends on the scale of game you'd like to play. I'd recommend Dirtside or Stargrunt both by Ground Zero Games. I don't have an URL but they should be listed in the manufacturers section of this web site.

Dirtside seems to be a better scale (rather go smaller to 6mm than larger to 15mm) but the game is OOP and to be honest I'm not all that thrilled with the figs. They seem all rather generic.

I think Dirtside is 6mm and Stargrunts is 25mm scale, both by Ground Zero Games. I think Dirtside is still around though, now called Dirtside II.

Gropos by Agents of Gaming is a 10mm scale sci-fi game that involves armor, infantry and VTOLs. It's set in the Babylon 5 universe. But is supposed to have rules to design your own vehicles.

Unfortunately AoG recently has closed it's doors and Gropos is now OOP. You still be able to find the rules and minis at some stores. In fact I know of one in my neck of the woods that has a decent stock left.

I like GROPOS myself, by AOG, but they are out of business now. Rules and Figures are still available. Earth, Minbari and Narn armies were done before production stopped. There is a fan effort to produce many more racial forces, getting minis to match will be the hard part.

Pixelgeek, Dirtside II the later version of the Firefly-inspired rules is still in print. Try the www.gzg.com site for ordering.

Can I also suggest Wessex Games' Hellfire? Thats a 6mm game but will work with 10mm figures as is, and has some complex-looking but fast-playing rules with a nifty alien response method for command and control: I.ve used them for BTECH commando raids, VSF replays of New Zealand Wars battles and a lot besides. Very infantry-biased but with good vehicle rules too.

Thanks for the sugggestions. Some of the rulesets looks interesting but the main problem is that the 10 and 6 mm figs I have seen all look a little boring (or in the case of one manufacturer just bad).

Most of the models seem to have been inspired by late 70's WH Keith illustrations. And while this isn't in itself a bad thing it just looks...old. Certainly nothing that fires the imagination (although some of the Brigade VTOL craft looked interesting).

Maybe I just need to see some of them painted (and in focus).

If you have the money, I can suggest Ironwind metals. They have the old Ral Partha Battletech vehicles. There's a ton of good but clunky oversize stuff there. Also, and I hate to say this, try GW Epic. Some of the heavy tanks are good for 10mm sci-fi. I think your best bet is Ironwind, though, using Dirtside II rules, or if you don't mind record keeping (and I don't) you can play Battletech rules using tanks only, and all the optional rules out of Maximum Tech.

I love the generic rule systems like Dirtside II a lot since they are designed to accomodate whatever minis you decide to use. I suggest even using modified Microarmor (1/285). Myself and friends have done several mods using different turrets on hulls, adding radomes, double treads, etc. I find it more enjoyable to design my own. If you rather buy some already suited for sci-fi, there is a lot available. In additon to the ones mentioned, you can check out:

Hex Command NOVA are SF alternative and much better than BattleTech or CAV
