I have always been a fan on what if scenarios. Here are my ideas. One may be original and some have be done before.
Throughout history France and England have had conflict. Would it be feasible to do a conflict between these two nations in the modern era? I wonder about what time period would be most believeable. I like the idea of a more recent invasion with challenger 2's, warriors, LeClercs, etc. Maybe the 60s and 70s would be better. I do not know much about the political situation to have a good opinion. There could be a lot of scenario ideas. Bocage fighting, French resistance fighters armed with famas rifles (great conversion opportunities), bloody urban skirmishes are all possibilities). I am also not sure if animosity Still exists between the British and French people.
Taiwan and China have always been a source of gaming. There is a boxed game out there that covers the whOle conflict. I understand the Taiwanese use m60s or m48s for tanks. They may still use old korEan war US recoilless rifles. You could have some nice cold war flavor up against moder Chinese tech. The ToE put out by Ghq mentions lots of scenario ideas. The threat of nuclear options always baffled me. Why would China nuke Taiwan? They want the industry so they can make rubber novelty toys and mesh underwear.
And finally, my favorite idea for a what if scenario. THE invasion of Iran by the US (and probably a bunch of allies too). I was deeply inspired by the wargame by 3m "Light Division". You could make it a more modern invasion. The game "Hornet Leader" puts it's invasion scenario in the 2000's.
You could have it all. MariNE amphibious landings, ranger take and hold missions, airborne landings at key facilities, spec ops missions, Iranian human wave assualts on fixed positions, and much much more.
I really want to game this in 20mm. I want to make a ranger recon platoon mounted in jeeps. There is a picture of one in the force on force book on page 84. It is one of my favorite illustrations in the book. This also lends itself to 3mm and using Modern Spearhead. That can be said of all the ideas.

Well, this is a lot to digest. What do you TmPers think? To many notes…?

If Degaulle was assassinated and France and her colonies fell into civil war, yes a Brit invasion could be likely. Presumably, if britain was attacked by one of the factions. A VERY BRITISH RE-ENACTMENT OF HENRY Vth with '50's/'60's/'70's stuff. What's the TOE for Bardot's Brigade?

Maybe just ship all the football hooligans across the Channel and don't let them back unless they win.

Try getting British Squaddies past the hypermarket in Calais. Be prepared to have all vehicles full of duty free beer and cigarettes. Must be a minus on movement.

Not to mention "other distractions" there, I suspect.

The soccer hooligans strategy seems like a good one.

Go for an Anglo-Spanish war – Spain moves on Gibraltar, UK takes Ceuta and some of the Spnish islands – would be more 'realistic' – neither UK or France could land enough troops in their respective opponents countries to avoid a pasting, UK/Spain would offer 'plausible' options.

Also, remember that from 1970ish on, both the UK and France are nuclear powers…

I like GM's idea of an Anglo-Spanish war.

Was the book Red Cauldron, where there is a UK-US war again the French-Germans? That could be a possibility for you. Starts with an invasion of Poland and a fighting withdrawal by the BAOR.

In the 1980s I put together a Lamb War game based on the burning of British lorries by French farmers escalating so that the British adopted a convoy system with armoured battlegroups as escorts. There were rules of engagement (120mm HESH makes a mess of a tractor) and football hooligans were involved.

I think the best way to do this would be to simply create an alternate history, and then have a go. Maybe Calais was never lost and England maintains an enclave in mainland Europe; maybe we never entered the Entente Cordiale – maybe we allied with the Prussians in the Franco-Prussian War and stayed neutral during WWI… or maybe there never was a WWI as we know it and the first world war was between the Bolsheviks of the CCCP who moved west after crushing the Poles on the Vistula in 1921?

In any case, the Royal Tank Regiment's Challengers are now firing 120mm SABOT at the Frenchie LeClercs…

Full US invasions are always appealing. Just the amount of cool stuff available in the 80s and 90s. I like to think of Falklands-like scenarios for the US. So far I've gamed a fictional US Marine landing on to Cuba in the late 80s and now I'm getting into US Marines landing in Estonia as part of a Cold-War-gone-hot scenario.
