Either version of Dr. Zhivago is a good place to start.

I won't say 'best' RCW film, but there was a 2008 Russian film 'Admiral', about White leader Admiral Kolchak:

Best novel by far: 'And Quiet Flows the Don', Mikhail Sholokhov.

At least a couple of TV adaptations exist, among others a 1958 one by Gerasimov and an… interesting version by Bondarchuk, with Rupert Everett and F.Murray Abraham, filmed at the beginning of the Nineties but only released in 2006. A shorter, 3-hour version was released on DVD.

Dr Zhivago probably, there is a movie on the Potemkin I have seen and am sure its a Soviet production. Its Battleship Potemkin 1925 from Sergei Eisenstein I have seen it on TCM

I'm still a fan of Dr Zhivago …

I enjoyed "Reds" but it has very little military stuff, since it's more of a character drama.

Battleship Potemkin is worth watching, but it's not an RCW movie. The mutiny happened in 1905.

One of my favourite movies is White Sun of the Desert. It's set during the Russian Civil War but isn't about it – the same way as the Good, the Bad and the Ugly is set during the American Civil War.

A second for "The Red and the White". It can be a bit confusing as characters enter and exit the movie but I think it mirrors the chaos of the conflict.

Is "The Red and the White" the one where a small group advances against the enemy?
