I am painting some miniatures (Perry 28 mm) to represent the 23rd Reg't of Foot and they have blankets as part of their kit. I haven't been able to fine much on what color the blankets should be painted – one source said British military blankets for this period were natural white wool with double stripes on each end. Does anyone have any suggestions for painting the blankets (maybe an off-white)? Thanks is advance. |

Off-white or natural seems to be the accepted colour among modellers and groups re-creating British corps, particularly ca. 1777 Light Infantry who carry their blanket rolls on a tump line. Plenty images on line. e.g. here link All sorts of material on the RevList forum: link |

42flanker – thank you for the info and the links. I was unaware of the RevList forum. |

It appears that off-white/cream undyed wool is preferred. Certainly cheaper than dying. but to think of that color in the field for even a couple weeks! |

There was one inspection return where a reg't. was carrying their rations in their blankets since their haversacks were long worn out. Most surviving original blankets are unbleached wool. Their is an enormous "garrison" blanket on display at Ft. Ticonderoga. |

95th- glad to be of help. RevList was my introduction to the period from a standing start. I owe them a great deal. |
