Buy, Paint, Game, Sell – Does anyone else do this ?

I have storage problems and – I suspect like most gamers – an irrational desire to try new things.

This means that in recent years I have resorted to selling items that I perhaps didn't find as engaging as I had expected. o

Recently some 15mm Ancients and DBA armies have gone this way, and more is likely to follow.

Does anyone else do this ?

Nope…

Veteran Cosmic Rocker18 Nov 2016 7:05 a.m. PST

Yes, just doing it this weekend (now at the selling stage)

Bought, painted, gamed, and looking to trade my painted AWI for Crimean war in 28mm.but not selling, I usually trade my painted stuff for unpainted, that way I get more figures coming back :)

Yeah definitely – over and over again. Often it's coupled with changing scales. Same genre – new scale.

Often buy, sometimes paint, rarely game, hardly ever sell!

Thomas O18 Nov 2016 7:34 a.m. PST

Yes, have done it several times.

Hafen von Schlockenberg18 Nov 2016 7:41 a.m. PST

Yes.

Ceterman18 Nov 2016 8:06 a.m. PST

Never. Buy, paint, game, hoard.

I'm with Jim--buy, paint, sell. Some of this is poor planning on my part, though. There are projects which never really went anywhere for foreseeable reasons, and a couple of cases in which I've had to build back armies I sold for trifling sums.

There are sites and books which discuss building an army and terrain. We need a tutorial about thinking through budgets, storage and what armies are necessary to fight which battles.

I've sold very little over the years although I am currently selling some of my 28mm Slammers.

I am a terrible hoarder…

When younger (15 maybe) I sold my considerable Matt Mason collection (what with them being just children's toys…) to buy a new bicycle.

I've spent the last decade (and a not inconsiderable amount of cash) replacing them!

Yes, a bit of a life style I am afraid.
Sold my 1870/1866 and Bolt Action to pay for Rev War Collection. Sold napoleonic 1806 to pay for Russian Crimean. Both armies sold were sitting gathering dust.

Try to keep it a hobby, I've sold and always regret it. Don't mind painting up an army to just sell the figures usually being from a ill conceived project. I've sold lots when I move from one scale to another due to others doing the same (why oh why you lemmings) but am now more stable with my lead pile. The newer smaller skirmish systems I have no problem selling off when I lose interest.

Lowtardog18 Nov 2016 11:13 a.m. PST

Yup sometimes

wrgmr118 Nov 2016 11:28 a.m. PST

Buy, paint lots, keep what I need, sell the rest. Space for me is a consideration.

Titchmonster18 Nov 2016 11:32 a.m. PST

I'm with Ceterman. Buy, Paint, Game and Hoard.

Timmo uk18 Nov 2016 11:32 a.m. PST

Not any more. I'm much more realistic about what I can actually hope to achieve. I don't buy much but what I do has to fit in with my current collections and be useful from a gaming perspective.

I very very rarely sell but do sometimes give figures away. The final entry above will probably give away as an instruction to my executors

(The reorganisations are in response to new game systems, only some of which get played)

I know some people that just leave out the middle two bits.

nnascati Supporting Member of TMP18 Nov 2016 7:23 p.m. PST

Very often as these pages can witness.

Ah, Major Matt Mason! I had them too when I was a kid. The commercials are on youtube.

Thanks.

Oh, I generally buy and then paint…..some of it.
