When one reads the accounts of pirates seeking to take "the prize" in the late 1600s and early 1700s, one hears of the annual fleet and ships of the grand Mughal as much as the Spanish gold fleet. However, it is rarely wargamed. I am looking for help locating any primary sources (pictures) of Mughal sailors and ship crews from the late 17th and early 18th Centuries to represent these sailors. I figured if I can't find it on TMP, it don't exist! |

Perhaps link and picture though they may be a little earlier than ideal. |

One of the plates in the Osprey pirate book depicts the capture of the treasure dhow the Ganj-i-sawai by Henry Every in 1695. |

So, you want to game what the sources claim was the richest pirate prize ever, then? Brain too tired but I think the Merchant Castle or something like that – even too tired to Google. |

Mughal ships were built of teak with hulls similar to junks but wth a dhow rig. At some point ship builders in Surat began copying East Indiamen as pirates tended to avoid european broadsides though the 17th century may have been a little early for this. If you look for a picture called Ships in Bombay Harbour 1731 there is a native vessel in the left foreground |
