I need a lot of cars suitable for 15mm terrain manly wreckage/rubble. I have found 100 N scale cars for about 12 dollars, would they work or should I buy 50 HO scale cars for 14 dollars?

I use HO in my Zombie campaign and they work pretty well. N would be too small.

You should be able to find ones sold in 1/100 scale, they're available as thats a standard scale for architectural models. TBH I've yet to buy any on ebay…probably should and let you all know.

I like and use the line of cars from Model Power Minis. They are 1:87 so they fit well with 15mm. I buy them mostly from RR shops. E bay has lots of listings under a search of 1:87.

I find the N scale cars to be too small and most cars from Hot Wheels and Matchbox to be around 1:64 which is too large.

I would definitely recommend going for the 1/87 cars, they look the right size with 15mm figures and vehicles. The 1/100 scale look too small next to them and the roofs only come just past a figures waist. I think you might need to be careful if you want trucks and lorries though as they don't match 15mm trucks.

Hot Wheels and Matchbox are usually good for 15mm-ish trucks, as they're fit to the box, so smaller in scale than their cars. Just picked up a garbage truck, school bus, and sci-fi SWAT vehicle at Walmart and a dollar store last night while "Christmas shopping".

Here is a link to a model railroad clinic on how to made crushed and wrecked cars using metal foil. You will still need at least a few model cars in 15mm (1/100 scale or so) to use a masters:
