We'll be rereleasing them in a new format next year.

DHautpol15 Nov 2016 6:57 a.m. PST

Good to hear.

I bought a few boxes some years back as the beginnings of a grandiose project. The project has been scaled right back, due to space considerations, but I will still need to pick up a few more cavalry to round off the army.

My tip is to use Ebor Miniatures for officers and drummers rather than making them up from the components which can then all be used for rank and file men. As can be seen on the Ebor website, the figures have masses of character and are a joy to paint.

@Paul at Warlord Games – Can you give us an idea what the "new format" might look like?

John Leahy Sponsoring Member of TMP15 Nov 2016 11:56 a.m. PST

I agree about the price!

rxpjks115 Nov 2016 1:19 p.m. PST

My guess will be 24 figures for $25. USD. Of course you will have some new, pretty box art.

Waco Joe15 Nov 2016 2:35 p.m. PST

I'm hoping I can buy horse sprues by themselves. I a bunch of hte riders bought off of hordes o bits but need horses!

ordinarybass15 Nov 2016 2:41 p.m. PST

Just hope they're not the same "new format" as the Zombie survivors got when they became part of "Project Z". Same price for less than 1/2 the number of figs and some game cards..

Good news – I have lots of infantry but had not got to the artillery or cavalry yet

RogerC16 Nov 2016 2:43 p.m. PST

I THINK I HAVE SOME OF THE CAVALRY I MAY NOT USE NOW IF YOUR INTERESTED. I HAVE LOTS OF THE FOOT TOO BUT WILL DEFINATELY BE USING THEM.

Eek sorry for SHOUTING!

Truls if you still have those Footsore Swedish Cavalry you don't want maybe we can do a swap?

Hafen von Schlockenberg22 Nov 2016 3:03 p.m. PST

That's easy--do both! I have 10mm(mostly Old Glory strips--makes for fast painting) for the big battles. But I love the uniforms, and would like to get some 25mm,especially Ebor. Maybe enough for a dozen or so units per side.

dave00177623 Nov 2016 2:15 p.m. PST

will be interesting to see the price of these when they re-appear as the obvious attraction was the ability to build up large forces at a low cost.

Part time gamer01 Dec 2016 12:38 a.m. PST

Personal thoughts, for myself 10 not to mention 6mm is just too small. But I have to admit, if you want to refight any of histories "massive" battles, (Gettysburg, Waterloo) you cant beat those micro scale figures, as I call them.

But 28mm – 1/56 scale just looks better on the table I think.
As for the WSS sets..

Paul at Warlord Games
We'll be rereleasing them in a new format next year.
That will be very interesting to see what they do. I know they do list WGF 'Saxon Fyrd' by the sprue, but not the complete box set.

Clays Russians09 Dec 2016 10:54 a.m. PST

I want to use them for a imagination "all the Kings men" project. 24 foot, 12 horse, one gun and crew, (but I do not like the gun, she's ugly…..). Looking forward to it, all shiny and chrome"

Anton Ryzbak21 Dec 2016 6:53 a.m. PST

Queen Catherine please send me an email, I am very interested in working out a deal on those figures,

RogerC26 Dec 2016 7:15 a.m. PST

Hi Queen Catherine. I mix manufacturers pretty freely in my Great Northern War range. For my Saxons I use Wargames Factory foot with Ebor command, mainly because I don't like the way the command go together from WGF. I think they look just fine. Lots of pictures on my blog and example below. gapagnw.blogspot.co.uk

RogerC – those look fantastic!

RogerC27 Dec 2016 1:11 p.m. PST

Cheers Wargamer Dave, the basic WGF figures are great figures, adding some nice command and in this case Ebor and Warfare Casualties just rounds them out a bit.

thehawk27 Dec 2016 10:22 p.m. PST

QC, I have about 10 boxes of these. I don't think the proportions are good enough. especially the leg length/width and muskets, to mix them with other figures.

DHautpol28 Dec 2016 6:30 a.m. PST

As can be seen from RogerC's beautiful Saxons, the Ebor command figures work very well with the WGF rank and file. I don't assemble the WGF figures as command figures for the same reason as RogerC.

To some extent, I agree with thehawk about the leg length but feel this can be 'disguised' a bit. I commented on this aspect on the thread about the Danish Foot Guards a bit lower down on the Discussion page. I've repeated my comment here:-

"I've painted a few units of these myself and found a way of reducing the effect of the rather short thick calves on the figures. Rather than depict breeches and stockings, I opted to paint them as if the stockings were being worn over the top of the breeches like gaiters; the single colour has the effect of slimming and lengthening the legs.

A friend of mine re-enacts around this period and tells me that it is much more comfortable to wear the stockings outside like gaiters as it prevents them getting bunched up under the breeches."

RogerC has done the same thing with his Saxons.

General Kirchner05 Jan 2017 1:31 p.m. PST

anyone else still have their WGF Spanish sucession they don't want? I would be happy to work out a deal. PM me.

RogerC05 Jan 2017 2:49 p.m. PST

OK so daft question, how do I find the place to PM General Kirchner as I do have WGF WSS I am looking to move.

Hafen von Schlockenberg06 Jan 2017 9:43 p.m. PST

PM Bill and ask.

Clays Russians10 Jan 2017 9:57 a.m. PST

What IS the latest rumor (rumour) on these. Any updates?

79thPA Supporting Member of TMP15 Jan 2017 8:44 p.m. PST

I just sent them an email, so we'll see what they say.

RogerC17 Jan 2017 2:03 a.m. PST

General Kircher you can email me on rojcas@hotmail.co.uk just cavalry available at the moment from me

Griefbringer06 Feb 2017 4:29 a.m. PST

Apparently Warlord is releasing them soon, possibly re-branded as "Marlborough's Wars". There is already a starter army boxed set available for pre-order:

link

The contents seem to be equivalent to 5 WF boxes, plus banner sheets, for £85.00 GBP

Jo Jo the Idiot Circus Boy06 Feb 2017 9:56 a.m. PST

Heh.

And me just starting the period in 15mm….

I wish I had seen this a couple of months ago!

Griefbringer19 Feb 2017 5:46 a.m. PST

On another note, the recent Warlord newsletter shows cover art for the individual boxed sets. Looks like the infantry set has been reduced to 24 figures.

There are also two versions of the cavalry and infantry boxes. I presume that these will contain appropriate flag sheets, like the Warlord ECW plastic sets.

Jo Jo the Idiot Circus Boy22 Feb 2017 8:57 a.m. PST

Yikes.

Mrs. Martin ordered me two of these ex-Wargames Factory starting sets for my birthday. I hate to hear that they have reduced the figure count in the boxes.

Ah well.
This still gives me a good start on a pair of armies for the period. Although I'm tempted to use all the plastic infantry for an Anglo-Dutch force and spring for Ebor and/or Front rank for my French. (the whole "belly box" thing)

General Kirchner23 Feb 2017 10:01 p.m. PST

i am glad they are getting re released. they might not be the best looking in the world, but they are cheap and decent.

plus I have already started my period in the figs, but in 18 unit battalions. it would seem 24 would be hard to fit except on a really big table.

Musketier26 Feb 2017 8:40 a.m. PST

Martin, General,
I still have several of the old boxes, untouched. If interested, let me know at
