Any suggestions for strengthening old metal figures ? In particular I have a miniature with a staff, whose top part is delicate, so before painting it if there is anything I can treat it with would be great. It's the old Citadel Fox Priest, which is usually snapped off at the point where the hand holds the staff. Superglue ? White glue ? |

If you really afraid, add some fine metal shaving (from filed down bases) to the super glue at the expected point of failure. |

Slow setting epoxy, shaped with a hobby drill after setting, is quite good for strengthening. eg build up a shoulder strap under muskets or rifles in any scale. As I have previously posted, I use it between the legs of 1/300 infantry/foot after they are painted. |

Superglue with a dusting of baking soda will give you a very sturdy repair. The only issue may be that the patch will require a bit of sanding before you paint. |

I second Grunt1861. The Superglue/Baking Soda mix is a great filler and a really strong reinforcement. I've used it to strengthen spears, swords, rifles, etc for years. |

Purposefully remove the piece and reattach by pinning. It's the only way to be sure. |

I have been using JB Weld epoxy bit may give that baking soda super glue mix a try. For breaks i have been pinning with the epoxy, but it takes a while to set and cuts production making sure things don't slip/move. |

Hi, Thanks for the feedback. I have two copies of the model, so might get a mate to pin it for me (it is very thin), and maybe have a go at the superglued and baking soda option after doing a test on another less rare model (baking soda + vinegar is a great way of cleaning out household plumbing). Cheers. |

How do you do the super glue / baking soda? Make a paste? Apply glue and sprinkle with powder? |

I make a paste and apply with a used Exacto blade. It sets pretty quickly though but makes a really hard repair. You can use talcum powder as well and it takes a bit longer to set. |
