Looking for sources for forces involved in the various battles to include numbers of each unit, particularly the Imperial forces.

I do have detailed Orbats but sadly they do not give the numbers in each regiment which is quite an omission!

Any pointers would be appreciated.

Gee, Nafziger didn't have the numbers. I am sure I have it in one of my many books and material on the Boer War at home. I 'll check tonight. For my Boer War games I just give each battalion or commando four stands of three men each. I don't worry about the exact numbers of men in each unit. It works it's way out. Some have more, some have less.

You might find the numbers listed for the British. But forget about the Boers. They varied from one commando to the next. From one day to the next.

Agree with Rallynow on standard unit size for gaming. Once you know the approx total forces on each side in a battle, you know by how much one side (usually the Boers) is outnumbered. Scale the unit numbers accordingly. Remember that contemporary Brit accounts may have exaggerated Boer numbers to save face when they (Brits) lost battles.

This site offers some great perspective on individual British units in the Boer War. More of supplement to what you are searching for, but nonetheless useful
