A very nice looking game. Why would you go to Iran? That is a very scary place. |

Why go to Iran? Because it is the seat of one of the world's great civilizations. Because it has some sites of amazing beauty and international importance (such as Persepolis). Because it has great food. Because it has wonderful, friendly people. Because they make great carpets. Because actually it isn't a very scary place. Felt safer there than many other places (eg Miami & bits of New York or even my own home town). As long as you don't do stupid things such as try to smuggle in alcohol or shout "Down with the Prophet" the religious police will leave you alone. In fact, saw hardly any police and virtually no one with a gun and we weren't just in tourist areas. The Iranian Government gets a bad reputation for a number of reasons, and it has good reasons for not liking the USA (sorry, but it does). Other countries close to the US government (eg Saudi Arabia and Israel) have their own reasons for not wanting a rapprochement between Iran and the West. That then screws with US politics and so the rest of the "Free World". We need to get off our high horses and open up trade and cultural links with them. It's going to happen eventually and the sooner we start the better. Go on. Give it a go. |

Great models and it sounds as though you had a very interesting trip too. |

This is the trip we did: link Highly recommended. I will blog more about it once I've got my photos sorted. Of course once you go you can't use the US Visa waiver programme for 5 years and have to get a full Visa, but so what. Worth it. |

It's a very nice building … The Armati game was won by the army with the higher initiative … Splendid Persian army. Phil |

I have very little interest in visiting the US these days – been there twice before, and who needs to be scanned, finger-printed and treated like a criminal by Immigration and TSA. (Not unique though; Heathrow is becoming increasingly unpleasant, and Australian Immigration seems to be entirely staffed by rejects from the prison service). It seems to be a common thread in the Anglo-sphere. Iran contains many more historically significant sites in periods I have more interest in. Sadly my previously planned trip was cancelled thanks to some minor unpleasantness in the Gulf. |

@Khusrau: The Iranians do take your finger prints at the consulate. Otherwise it was all pretty smooth. Now would be a good time to pick up the threads of your previous attempt to visit. |
