Hi guys, I was watching the (pretty awful) Robocop 3 yesterday and I realized that the rehab troops have gear so close to the Slammers (save for the color) that I think the props guys were inspired by it.
Fatigues, full face commo helmet and back and brace hard-shell armor (some have a bullet proof vest instead). They are a great real life inspiration for the Slammers gear and how it is worn. I recommend miniature makers to check it out. Another movie, a great one this time, that made me think of the Slammers is Breaker Morant, not for the gear (well, they are in khakis) but for the issues discussed in the movie. I don't know if Drake was inspired by the facts behind the movie, but in "But Loyal to his own" Hammers is being reproached the exact same thing that one of the Bushveld Carbineer is during his trial: tying family members of the rebels to the troops transports to prevent attacks. If you've never seen it I urgently advise you to check it out, I'm not much for courtroom dramas but this movie climbed easily in my top 10 and I've rewatched it at least 4 times since. Do you guys have any movies/series/animation that you recommend as good inspiration for the Slammerverse? |

Ah yes: Breaker Morant: "We caught them and we shot them under rule 303" One of Edward Woodward's finest performances, IMHO. The only thing I would say is that the Slammers helmets are open face but with a full, pull down 'bubble' visor. John T |

If you want a good example of a similar uniform to the Slammers, check out "Freejack" with Mick Jagger and Emilio Estevez. The mercenary "Bonejackers" look great! |

Ah yes, Freejack, Mick Jagger and his mouth should have had separate credits! I remember the unfortunately named BoneJackers (jacked any bones lately?) and you are right, they are in the same wheelhouse. "The only thing I would say is that the Slammers helmets are open face but with a full, pull down 'bubble' visor." => Look the rehabs jumping out of the truck in the background, they don't have the same kind of helmet as the guy in the foreground and they don't have a motorcycle helmet chin guard like the others. It looks like a riot squad helmet. |

Ah yes: Breaker Morant:"We caught them and we shot them under rule 303"
Very Good movie. Back in my youth, when I was at Inf Ofc Adv Course in '83. The JAG used that at a training aid. To help discuss War Crimes, etc., … Good choice … The only thing I would say is that the Slammers helmets are open face but with a full, pull down 'bubble' visor. Yes, generally I don't see those uniforms as Slammers … But I guess I'm a bit of a "Slammer-phile", like John T … |
