These are the first Dr. Who figures from Warlorld that you might be able to do a unit with!

SWEET!!!!!

Oh.

Well, that's a disappointment.

Time War Daleks were inevitable, no issues there. But why on Skaro did Warlord split the pieces for each Dalek in such a way as this??

picture

I can't understand the thinking behind this choice. Why not follow the very sensible approach Games Workshop used with their plastic Daleks way back when?

picture

The GW miniatures split the Dalek into four parts – left and right skirt halves, shoulder section (where the gunstick and plunger attach) and head dome / neck.

Why was this a better way to chop up a Dalek? Simple. Have you ever tried to pose a Dalek? With no limbs as such, no twist in the waist, or other organic features, the only way to give a miniature Dalek some 'life' is by rotating the dome.

On these Daleks, the only way to rotate the dome will be to glue the Dalek together (so much for 'no glue needed'), carefully saw off the dome, and re-glue it at a different angle.

Trust me, if you've never assembled an army of Daleks yourself – ten or more Daleks, all staring blankly straight ahead, is a lifeless, boring spectacle.

By their very nature, Daleks are curious. They are always seeking and locating, before exterminating. These Warlord offerings don't look like they'll do much other than gliding rigidly forward.

I'm also a bit annoyed by the gap on the sides of panels 1 & 2 (at the front of the skirt) but that's a fairly minor issue.

Also, having the skirt separate from the rest of the Dalek makes conversions so much easier. Emperor Daleks, Heavy Weapons Daleks, etc. tend to have the same skirt, with the tops the primary differences.

I've probably amused some people with this lengthy protest about something as silly as the parts layout for plastic Daleks. Well, if I can't jump up and down about it on TMP, then you tell me where else. ;)

Maybe if these Daleks come in boxes of 10 or 20 for a very decent price, they'll find a way into my collection, but I'm not convinced.

I want to get excited about Warlord having a Who licence. I would love to support their efforts. But this make me feel I won't be pushing aside my Character Building Daleks anytime soon, which leaves me awfully glum.

The option of a swivelling dome would make sense..but not fatal. The Microuniverse Daleks I have are one piece, and I can live with that. I might be tempted if they match the ones I already have. These look good, and accurate, but I'd prefer additions rather than replacements.
At least no-one will have to stick with the free gifts that appeared with the Doctor Who Adventures magazine.
The big gap I think is not so much Daleks as new Cybermen.

How do these compare size-wise with the plastic daleks that came with the Dr. Who Comics?

"Snap together" seems to be the reason for that simplification. I hope they do not try to walk that way with all plastics, or it will spoil the next humanoid release with dullness.

Can you pleeeeeeese post a pic of these beside other Daleks, especially the old Black Tree/Harlequin designs?

Come on dude, Warlord Games is the Historical Gee Dubs.
They will charge 25$ for a box of 5.

I am with you on the unsightly seam down the middle of the dalek. It will néed to be sanded down and fixed.
