So there is a running poll now, about favourite century to wargame. And the 19th Century is winning easily with a decent second place for the 20th and trailing 3rd for the 18th. But which was makes the 19th so popular. I think we all know Napoleonics and ACW will be the majority wargamers periods in the 19th century. But there are many many big great wars of the 19th century so let's dig deeper! But how to make sure we don't have this poll running for years and year? Here are my sugestions: Napoleonic Wars(including war of 1812) Latin American wars of liberation Carlist wars Latin American wars Indian wars Texan Revolution Mexican-American War Crimean war Schleswig Wars ACW Colonial wars(All colonial wars including USAs grab at colonies ) Franco Prussian war. I'm sure I forgot several. Also might be a little "broad" to lump all colonial wars into one, but well we would end up filling the internet and the internet would break down if we list each one singularly .

You actually missed quite a few, such as: Miguelite Wars Russo-Turkish Wars (two of them) Sino-Japanese War Belgian War of Independence Polish Uprising Seven Weeks War Risorgimento (which may or may not include the 1859 Piedmont War) I also think lumping all Latin American Wars and all Colonial Wars together is rather overdoing things.

For me ACW but overall I would guess Napoleonic After that there are a number of others in a distant third and fourth – for me it would be Colonial Wars followed by Mexican Wars but I suspect Crimean and Franco-Prussian Wars are way up there overall

Which I am playing or which I think more people are playing? If Napoleonics is included (i.e if you got for temporal 19th century 1800-1899, rather than what historians tend to mean 1815-1914) then Napoleonics with ACW coming second. If Napoleonics is exluded, then ACW with Franco-Prussian War coming second. My own club plays the 1876-1878 Ottoman Wars (vs. Serbia, vs. Russia)

I wouldn't lump all the Latin American wars into one pile, they are too diverse and too interesting to get such treatment. So, to split them out a bit: Wars of Liberation Triple Alliance War (I have all the figures painted!) Napoleonic and ACW, also my favorites of the 19th century and the bloodiest/most famous. I also love the Mexican-American War, Texas Revolution, Franco-Prussian War, Sioux Wars, Paraguayan War, Greek War of Independence, Anglo-Zulu War, and the War of 1812. Gamed all except for the AZW and Paraguay.
