Wow! I even started smelling the comic pages! |
Tgunner | 31 Oct 2016 6:59 a.m. PST |
Gotta love the throw back to comics too! They had better not be flats!!!

I'd seen this one before, but it also has a nostalgia hit attached : link |

Oh,now I'm that 11-year old coming across those first boxes of Airfix at the drugstore. 20thmaine, are you licensed to practice all this Regression Therapy? |
Texas Jack | 31 Oct 2016 8:30 a.m. PST |
Thatīs fantastic! And kudos to HaT for knowing what would appeal to their American market, very nice work for a Spanish company. Donīt tell me the Romans from the comics were flats! I am so happy I could never scrounge up two bucks! |
Ceterman | 31 Oct 2016 9:03 a.m. PST |
Oh yeah, they were flats! At least mine were, back in the 1960's… |
Waco Joe | 31 Oct 2016 9:26 a.m. PST |
Blue and Yellow flats, I remember them well. |
Texas Jack | 31 Oct 2016 9:32 a.m. PST |
Of course nowadays I may be able to appreciate them. Maybe. Were they all flats? I mean the WWII (with the footlocker!), ACW, and AWI figures. |
Hafen von Schlockenberg | 31 Oct 2016 9:32 a.m. PST |
I got a box of US Navy in the fifties. All hard plastic flats, including the ships, which were the same size as the men. My vague recollection is that they indeed came in in a cardboard "footlocker". I don't remember where they came from--probably the Argentia Bay base commissary. I had Golden Books in those days. Wasn't even aware of comics. |
Spudeus | 31 Oct 2016 10:49 a.m. PST |
My comicbought AWI guys were 3d, crude but not flats! |
Oberlindes Sol LIC | 31 Oct 2016 11:56 a.m. PST |
I had the American Civil War set from a comic book. They were crude 3D, not flats. The placement of the leader's sword on the HAT box in the first link in the original post is completely unintentional, I'm sure. |

20thmaine, are you licensed to practice all this Regression Therapy? Fully licensed – you can pick up the bill from my secretary as you leave the consultation….

I'm only five now,thanks to you,so I've got a nickel. Is that enough? |
Spudeus | 31 Oct 2016 12:17 p.m. PST |
The placement of the leader's sword on the HAT box in the first link in the original post is completely unintentional, I'm sure. I know, what's that about. Like that guy just stepped out of the shower and realized, "Shoot! I'm running late for the battle!!" |
Just Jack | 31 Oct 2016 1:34 p.m. PST |
I bought a couple of the WWII ones. "Task Force," and another of flats. I always wanted "Tank Trap" ;) V/R, Jack |
Tgunner | 31 Oct 2016 2:09 p.m. PST |
I had Tank Trap. A great idea, but my tanks had a tendency to blow up on their own. Task Force was a better game in my opinion. |

I had two or three sets (maybe one duplicate) of the ships pictured at the bottom of this page: link They were much more fun than the one set of army flats I got suckered into, and actually had game rules. (We weren't rich, it's just that they ran in the comic books for many years and spread out my whining for another small check.) |
FusilierDan | 31 Oct 2016 4:40 p.m. PST |
That artwork makes me want to pick those up. The AWI came as flats and then switched to rounds. I had the Gold Crown games and still have the rules, plastic play sheet and some of the other parts most of the figures are gone. |
Hafen von Schlockenberg | 31 Oct 2016 5:18 p.m. PST |
'Course, what I really wanted was the spaceship: link |
John Leahy | 31 Oct 2016 5:21 p.m. PST |
My AWI were not flats. I had them and the Romans. |

"Thatīs fantastic! And kudos to HaT for knowing what would appeal to their American market, very nice work for a Spanish company." HaT are very much an American organisation. These were a nostalgia product and a bit of fun. They also did the Airfix style homage ancient sets. Sadly, I think (think) they were US market only |
4th Cuirassier | 01 Nov 2016 8:02 a.m. PST |
I used to hunger after those as a kid but you couldn't get them in the UK. I would have been crushed if I had done! Flats and 1/72 IIRC! Something about the ad suggested they would be decent 1/32 figgies! |
Extra Crispy | 01 Nov 2016 3:21 p.m. PST |
I sent away for the 100 toy soldiers, WW2 version. Dark green, hard plastic flats. Loved them. |
Hafen von Schlockenberg | 01 Nov 2016 5:11 p.m. PST |
link Yeah, now I see the ad, that's what mine was, too. I remember the strange pose on the bazooka guy. IIRC the planes were the the only things not flat. |

I had Tank Trap. A great idea, but my tanks had a tendency to blow up on their own. Nothing wrong with that – we're playing Kursk and you get to be the Germans :) |
