I came across a long lost bag of 12 of these yesterday. These are Dixon Continental Light Dragoons. My problem is that I already have all 4 Continental Cavalry Units, 2 Legions, Philly Associators, McCall's SC Mounted, and an all purpose Mounted Militia already finished. Luzan's French, too. I like units that fought in battles. Obviously these would have to be used in the South, so perhaps an Va. Ga. or SC state unit? I could be convinced to go Loyalist, if there were other units besides the British Legion. I have them and Tarleton's finished. 16 th and 17 th, too. Even Queens Rangers Hussars. Truth be told, I am a cavalry addict. I have all the main units done by several different makers. So, what to do with these? I wish someone (not me) would do Swamp Fox types. I have them in Trident 40 mm and they are so damn cool.

If you have the book "Uniforms of the American Revolution " by Mollo, you will find a figure print #182 that is V.Heer's Provost Corps. Cavalry problem solved☺ |

Combine a Provost Corps with all those deserters we have descriptions of. |

Good idea, John. I'll file that one away for a future scene. Unfortunately, all of the figures are the same casting, with the sword in the air. I can play around with the position of the arms, a bit. But, it would look kinda silly, with all those swords out, for a couple of deserters. I will certainly keep that in mind, though. I have other figures that I can use for Provost. I could just paint them up as 3 rd Continentals. That would give me the 3 rd Continental Cavalry by: Dixon Perry Foundry Old Glory Fife and Drum Firing Line Hinchcliffe I probably have more than there ever were in reality. I do love the white and light blue uniform look. |

Perhaps paint them up as AWI re-enactors in a popular television drama?

In the South there were a number of local light dragoon troops on both sides. On the loyalist side, the South Carolina Light Dragoons fielded 3 troops, and the North Carolina Independent Dragoons fielded one troop. There is no data on their uniforms but a generic light-dragoon-style uniform as represented by the Dixons should be fine. There was also a troop of Georgia light dragoons, but these were actually drawn from the Royal Provincial regiments and the 71st Highland, so probably wore the British Light Dragoon uniform. On the rebel side there were the Georgia Legion, the South Carolina Light Dragoons, and Dabney's Virginia State horse. Just some food for thought. |
