Is there a web site anyone can point me to that has uniform reference for the Boshin War?

Errrr – Google and Wiki have a fair number of plates culled from a number of books, some of which I recognise from my personal library.

On both sides some troops had uniforms, usually dark blue with white and/or black accessories. Some regional troops had distinctive headgear both in shape and colour. And then there were the non-uniformed troops, who seem to have worn civilian clothes in a variety of shades.

This is THE book to get on the uniforms of the Japanese Army in the Meiji and Taisho eras. Well worth
the price. It covers the Boshin War

Completely agree with KTravlos. I started researching this period / purchasing 28mm Bac Ninh figures, etc., a few months ago.

Unlike other periods there are no 'Ospreys' or inexpensive 'Uniform Guides' available. What you do have are various web sites (Bach Ninh's is a good starting point), Pinterest uploads, etc., with incomplete or fragmented info.

I ordered the book listed above this week: expensive, but it really is the best and from what I can determine the sole source of its type for this period.

Yes osprey wise there is just a Rava Plate in Samurai Women.

I have the book – it is a great reference but I would note that most of the text is Japanese; there are however English legends for all the figures
