I do cowboy action shooting with SASS (Single Action Shooting Society).

No one fans their hand gun. It can rip your hand open, and there a greater chance of losing control of the firearm therefore fanning is strictly forbidden for safety purposes. Plus there is a safer/better way to two-hand the pistol. Please, never wrap your off-hand around the cylinder. I shoot left and right handed. I wear simple clothes, but I spend good money on my hat, boots, and leather.

Normally we shoot 10 rounds with revolver, 10 rounds with rifle, and 2-10 rounds shotgun. I have watched some folks drop all the targets in less than 18 seconds, which includes moving to each shooting station. True, those are the racers, the ones who compete at the national level. I'm much slower, but I seldom miss. There are videos on youtube about how/what to shoot and what to wear.

If you want to see old west dress then go to a SASS or NCOWS competition. They dress for the period with contests for the best dressed. My favorite is the soiled dove contest. If you want Mountain Man dress, attend a Rendezvous. Don't fall into the trap of thinking that the old west looked like the B cowboy movies, or the present day rodeo circuit.

Don't watch it. I watch very little TV because I spend my spare time with my hobby. I listen to music. I also spend a lot of time reading history and science.
