There can only be one answer, and that is "Of course". |

No, because I already knew he would. I'd read the book. |
Ferd45231 | 19 Oct 2016 9:41 a.m. PST |
Ohh! I thought you were referring to my nickname in the army. I was going to say I did not die ( well maybe a 1000 deaths). Yes I cried too but I was 7 and not allowed in pubs. H |

Yes. I won't watch movies in which dogs or other animals die. Kill gajillions of people but don't touch the hair on a pooch's head. |
cfuzwuz | 19 Oct 2016 10:30 a.m. PST |
Yes and have not watched it since. |

It's one of my favorite monologues: John Winger: Cut it out! Cut it out! Cut it out! The hell's the matter with you? Stupid! We're all very different people. We're not Watusi. We're not Spartans. We're Americans, with a capital 'A', huh? You know what that means? Do ya? That means that our forefathers were kicked out of every decent country in the world. We are the wretched refuse. We're the underdog. We're mutts! Here's proof: his nose is cold! But there's no animal that's more faithful, that's more loyal, more loveable than the mutt. Who saw "Old Yeller?" Who cried when Old Yeller got shot at the end? [raises his hand] John Winger: [Sarcastically] Nobody cried when Old Yeller got shot? I'm sure. [hands are reluctantly raised] John Winger: I cried my eyes out. …. |

For some reason I seem to have missed out on the tragic pooch, but the Yearling is probably even more traumatic … Certainly had me doing the neyeagara … |

The official name for Old Yeller's breed is Black Mouth Cur. Haven't seen any on the Westminster Kennel Club show. |

Read the book in the late 60's. I cried then and would probably cry if I read it again…. |

I avoid movies where I know dogs die. |
Oberlindes Sol LIC | 19 Oct 2016 3:24 p.m. PST |
You might like the movie Eight Below anyway, even though -- spoiler alert -- not all of the dogs survive. |

Yes I did. Unashamedly. And to the above post, I also bawled while watching Eight Below. |
Shagnasty | 19 Oct 2016 5:21 p.m. PST |
Likewise. I hate to see animals "suffer" in a story. |
nudspinespittle | 19 Oct 2016 5:40 p.m. PST |
Yes. Can't remember how old I was when I read the book. Junior High? Completely gutted me. |

Yep. I don't deal with dogs dying at all well, even fictional ones. I even cried at the end of Peter's Jackson's King Kong, and I was about 28. |
Old Wolfman | 20 Oct 2016 7:28 a.m. PST |
I remember a Slappy Squirrel cartoon("Bumbi's Mom") which parodied both Bambi and Old Yeller. And "Bambi Meets Godzilla" |

Cried? Hell…(sniff)…I never (sniff) really stopped…(BAWL!) Damn you, John! Until you reminded me, my shrink said another ten years and I might've stopped! TVAG |

Probably sorry to admit it but never heard of Old Yeller. Unless it's a mainly American thing in which case there's the reason. |
Bunkermeister | 20 Oct 2016 7:40 p.m. PST |
YouTube link Old Yeller is a Disney movie made in 1957. It is a classic and a real tear jerker. I cried when Old Yeller died, and I have seen it twice, once as a child and once a few years ago. Mike Bunkermeister Creek Bunker Talk blog |

Oh yeah, The Yearling! Aka Cross Creek, in the movies? That's a hard one to take. |

Bambi Meets Godzilla! Thanks for reminding me of that animated classic. I did not cry at all when I saw it. |
