I have some spare heads I want to put to some use, and I am sure there was some sort of eagle-guard type of chappie who wore a crested lancer / carabinier style helmet. Or am I going mad? |

You are not going mad. At least not because of eagle-guards!! *smile* You should do a google-search for "2ème porte aigle" And you will find pictures like this…

you could also look into Guard engineers. Especially since I don't think many Eagle-guards received such helmets. |

Aha! Thank you all! I followed Keith's suggestion and found a number of pictures of line eagle-bearers in colpack / busby. Was this commonplace? Also, this figure
depicts a fanion-bearer in 1810. Were these still around in 1815 – both the fanions and their bearers? |

IIRC the crested carabinier style helmet was introduced for the 1812 campaign in Russia and was also used in the 1813 campaign. Perhaps some were worn in 1814. They seem to have not been used in 1815, shakos being worn. The eagle-guard between 1808-1812 could erhaps wear shakos or bearskins or colpacks or something else but not carabinier style helmets. The figure in your post is a Grenadiers De La Garde, Second Sergent Porte Aigle, 1810. The Garde followed their own rules! |
