Since Imperial Skies came out I've been thinking of scenarios for future games either at home or running them at Conventions.

Now I did this when I was doing AERONEF but I want to do things somewhat differently.

Since Imperial Skies is set during an alternate WWI timeline I've been thinking of some ideas.

The first one which my friend came up with is based on a plan that the British came up with that Jackie Fisher(I think)came up with.

It was another idea to invade Germany but thru the Baltic.

The plan was to land a joint British/Russian force near East Prussia and invade from there.

But the number of ships that were needed to carry and land the troops were not available so it was called off but that's what my friend told me.

But in Imperial Skies this could take place.

I was thinking of using a mixed force of British and Russian Skyships escorting several aerial transports loaded with troops.

This force would be opposed by Units of the German and Austrian Sky Navies but that's what I've figured out so far.

So if any of you could help me with any other ideas or if you have any scenarios of your own that you wish to post here please do so.

Black Sea or Baltic Sea? East Prussia is a bit of a walk from the Black Sea.

Forcing the Dardanelles to get to the Black Sea (and simultaneously knock the Ottomans out of the war) was tried and failed with surface ships prior to the whole Gallipoli debacle. Might be interesting to try again with air navies, which would be immune to the minefields and shore batteries that defeated the surface fleet.

I corrected my mistake it was the Baltic so thanks for pointing that out.

They both start with B; in my case I tend to mix up Aegean and Adriatic!

My idea is a….MUTINY.

I have it in my mind to start with one fleet (painting an Austrian-Hungarian fleet) in this case a mutiny in the Austo-Hungarian fleet which in turn start the second war of independance in Hungary.(campaign) The date would not matter.(could be WW1 or earlier) The fleet would be anchored in a line. There would be a roll on a dice which ship would declare for Hungary. (This roll could be a lenghtly one as the ship crew would fight it out depending How many Hungarians would fight on each ship.(roll needed) Once known how many ship had turned. There would be a battle. One option would be to fight the ship which had not turned. The second option would be the Hungarian ship too few in number would have to escape off the board. Victory could be determined by how ship got off the board. This could idea could be used with any nation. Hunlion

Could have 1 side out testing a new experimental drive with escort while the other side has to try to capture the new drive instead of blowing everything up. Play on a 6x4 foot table. New ship has to make it off the other end to be safe. Bad guys have until then to capture it.

I love running a merchant convoy with escorts against fast raiders. The convoy has to make it off the opposite side of the board with minimal loses.

Another one we've done is a photo recon mission. One squadron has to escort a 'science' ship over a city on the board and protect it while it takes 'photos' of the city for later missions. The other side is trying to shoot down the 'science' ship and fend off its escorts.

Haven't given it a lot of thought, nor research, but I always like such a dust up in foreign climes, and an Entente-Alliance struggle on African shores sounds delish!

As for an invasion force, I'd think large transport would still most likely be surface borne. High escort in such cases can be interesting; I did that for an Aeronef scenario that could have been labeled 'ACW, Twenty Years On, Still Going Strong…' or 'Agincourt Ravished.'

I wrote up a letter fragment that was almost an AAR, which the Aethergraph may have if published again. Wishy-washy R Us.

I love … escorts against fast raiders.

I find these difficult to balance. The raider(s) needs to have the possibility to do damage to the escorted, while being in real danger from the escort, and in such a manner that maneuver makes all the difference.

CAN be a beautiful thing!

Two further thoughts:

1) Aeronefs are Nefs in the Air, so Nef, ship, battles can always suggest possibilities. Whether naval games such as Great War at Sea, or Star Fleet Battles.

2) Mention of scenarios always bring to mind campaigns, and GWaS was designed, according to the author, to allow disconnecting the tactical from the strategic(operational).

Victory by Any Means has an historical version, again fodder for conversion. Plenty of other possibilities, of course.

Doug coming up with Scenarios for Aeronef was interesting I even ran some at local conventions.

The main focus was obtaining R-Negative Matter which was the source for the Aeronef ships to fly.

The Scenario was this Turkey learned of several Islands near Greece had R-Negative Matter on them so the Turks wanted the Islands to get the rare element.

But the Islands were part of Greece so the Turks were prepared to go to War to take the Islands.

Now in Aeronef Greece has no Aeronef force so they needed help, and they got it.

The Italians came to Greece's aid and I came up with a scenario to do that.

So an Italian force supported by French and British Aeronef forces took on a Turkish force aided by German and Austrian Aeronef forces.

And in the first of 2 scenarios the Turkish led forces suffered a very bad defeat, and in the second scenario the Turks lost again.

Now this is just 2 examples of me coming up with scenarios for Aeronef.

And now Imperial Skies is here but since these rules are set in an alternate WWI period this has given me some other ideas for Scenario's.

Now I have plenty of ship minis I need to get the stat cards.

The British stat cards are for sale and I hope the rest will follow very soon.

And with the help of some friends I am working on other ideas for Scenarios.

My ACW scenario was pure on-the-spot inspiration.

An acquaintance had some ships at the store, Brits and 'the Hun.' In the same box were some ACW ironclads, an island with a star fort, and some small crescent shape small island/rocks.

As the whole alternate ACW was hot at the time, though not to my taste, instantly, the fort was Confederate keeping Union pickets at bay, the rock held Union guns trying to reduce the fort, the ironclads attempting relief.

The British aerial navy was only offering high cover for the noble southerners protecting their beloved homeland after decades of aggression, when some escorted bomb digs of the German navy, helping their noble Union friends, who had never given up defending the shinning dream of one great nation, show up. ;->=
