"I'm looking at D. Peter MacLeod's author photo. It's immortalized in the jacket of his most recent book, Backs to the Wall, and could be the portrait of affable academia: thick glasses, resting smize, loosened tie. A "less is more" approach to coiffure.

Versions of the photo also appear elsewhere: alongside his bio for the Canadian War Museum, where MacLeod is pre-Confederation historian; squished to punch up a few outdated CBC articles on his work at the museum; in the back pages of the author's three previous books about early Canada – among other dusty corners of Canadian history…"
