So what do you think. Is big, bad Russia full of hot air or are they looking for trouble?

I like the tabloid version better: link

You don't always have to be either looking for war or wanting war to actually cause one – and that is the risk Russia is taking at the moment.

I doubt that they want a war, I doubt that they are ready for a war, I do think they are risking it. They would lose.

All that is described in this article is not a preparation for war, is a Russian national sport. It's called "knock-out money from the state under all garbage and storage of the money in his pocket."

I think the real question is: "Is a war with Russia worth it over Syria?"

Since Russia is already militarily entrenched in Syria, the ball is technically in our court as to whether there's going to be war with Russia or not.

"Wag the dog" is correct.

THEY say that they aren't. It's all our fault.

Is Russia preparing for war? Yes. Is the USA preparing for war? Yes. The degree of military spending and military force being projected by the USA dwarfs Russia's military efforts. So, yes, Russia is preparing for war but at a far more modest level than the USA, China or Europe in aggregate. It is the responsibility of the state to be prepared for realistic military threats and that is what Russia is doing. Russia is also being aggressive in its foreign policy but again that aggression pales in comparison with aggression demonstrated by the USA and its allies around the globe. So, perhaps a little less fascination with hysterical fear-mongering and more attention to the systematic violence being used by others to promote their interests could better serve the cause of peace and international coexistence.

Cheers.
Rod Robertson.

Its a popular cause in Russia, but it probably won't escalate beyond appendage waving, or third party support

Russia's track record fighting minor nations or groups even (Chechens, Afghans for example) is pretty dreadful, Europe and China are on a different page, militarily. The US are another step up again with massive superiority in weapons, training and track record.

Militaries are near useless if not preparing for war, presumably even better if for the next possible one than the last one.

Yes, if you don't prepare for war, when it comes … it will be too late …

coopman17 Oct 2016 3:29 p.m. PST

We ARE preparing for war. The following forces are training every day for the next war:
The HUGS Division
The KISSES Division
The LOVE Division
The KINDNESS WINS Division
The FORGIVENESS Special Forces Brigade
The LET'S BE BEST BUDS Armored Division

Pretty much nothing in that region and others nearby are worth going to war with Russia.

coopman17 Oct 2016 5:09 p.m. PST

I agree with that, Legion 4.

Too much blood & treasure from West has already been expended in that part of the world. And there is nothing the non-moslem world can really do to "fix" it. It has to come from within. But I don't see that occurring anytime soon, IMO …

paulgenna20 Oct 2016 12:05 p.m. PST

If US forces are going to European countries we have not been stationed in years then there is a good chance Russia is gearing up.

I don't know if they're " gearing up" for WWIII. But they are moving pieces around the "RISK" board. And playing the geopolitical game of sabre rattling, etc., … even if only a little bit.
