Howdy, Second Winchester: Desperate southern victory…Yankee final assault was decisively repulsed at sundown….but the fight was on a knife edge. Rebel southern flank advanced to keep from being flanked. Tough fight in the woods that defeated McCook…except McCook would not break….Sheridan counter attacked and broke the South… Their reserve countered the counter and as Thomas was hitting the north flank…the rebs finally broke McCook. Based on the results of the battle, I think it is time to call the campaign; at the end of Turn 8 the situation looks like this: Union: 13 victory points Terrain Points: 12 Enemy: 1 (would be 3 but only counting infantry divisions reduced to half strength or less). 1 of 4 Confederate infantry divisions at half strength or less; 2 of six Confederate cavalry divisions at half strength or less. Confederate: 7 victory points Terrain Points: 3 Enemy: 4 (four Union infantry divisions reduced to half strength or less). 4 of 10 Union infantry divisions at half strength or less; no Union cavalry divisions at half strength or less (although Wilder's Bde took it on the chin). McCook's Corps has all three divisions at half strength or less. Operationally, while the Confederates still hold Chattanooga, nothing can stop the Union crossing the Tennessee River. The Union passed on the opportunity to take Chattanooga during the game, preferring keeping troops together for a frontal attack on the Confederate army. Some pictures from Second Winchester to follow. Ponder on, JAS

Howdy, The campaign had five players (3 Union & 2 Confederate). Each commanded a Corps (Thomas, Crittenden, & McCook for the Union; and Polk and Hardee for the Confederates). Each player had cavalry assets for scouting. One player on each side also wore the hat of the Army commander, responsible for logistics. Ponder on, JAS
