I have Friekorps/QRF, Peter Pig, Minifigs and Blue Moon. Some people get anal about mixing but no tme, I like the variety…

Foundry has a fine personality set, with both mounted and dismounted figures for the same person.
This is for both Cheyenne and 7th Cav.

I'd go Blue Moon in 15/18mm.

The Newline Design figs look cool too, but they are 20mm I believe.

Believe it or not Dixon 25mm are lovely!

nevinsrip11 Oct 2016 3:10 p.m. PST

The best were the old Bugle and Guidon range.
They did the same sculpts in both 30 mm and 54 mm.
Spectacular figures.
Good luck finding them.

POTN had a nice range of US Cavalry, mounted and dismounted. More in scale with today's figures and not the smaller true 25mm most of the other ranges were. The horses were the best I did, used Bryer horse models for inspiration. Sold in 2000. The current I owner will have to hawk it's own wares, if they are still available

I have some 30mm Bugle & Guidon figures, they are beautiful. Old Glory does a great Cluster and staff set as well as a last stand set.

I just, well over the past 7 or 8 months, bought a boatload of Foundry. Pretty much every pose, Mtd & dismounted & some of them 2 or 3 of each pose. Most from TMP & Ebay. GREAT figs. The best IMHO. I also got dead horses & dead & wounded from Old Glory. Now, I gotta paint about 300 mounted & dismounted!

nevinsrip11 Oct 2016 3:59 p.m. PST

cavcrazy, I have the entire 54 mm line, including Tom and Boston Custer. I have a few doubles. Shoot me a PM if interested

I put my 15mm collection together more than a decade ago. At that time there weren't many great figures for that period. I used Essex and Old Gory 15mm ACW for my cavalry. For my Indians I used mainly Yellow Ribbon and Minifig. The Minifig mounted Indians are beautiful. If I was putting a collection together today, I would build it around the Blue Moon 15mm figures. You can see my collection in diorama form at link

RAFM has 25mm at 25% off right now.

Consider the peter Pig range which has the Indians tents and civilians too.
The figures are shown clearly in photographs on the PP website.

Hovels also has a small Pony Wars range in 15mm. True 15mm, far too small to mix with most other ranges.

Old West and Pony Wars are one of the premium 'niche' periods – right there with 'colonials'. I'm like ExtraCrispy every manufacturer except the one I think too crude to bother with (but you might think otherwise so I refrain from naming). All in 15mm and 18mm. And don't forget to look in collateral ranges – Blue Moon's Napoleonic generic wagons offer up some items not found in other places.

GeoffQRF16 Oct 2016 6:05 a.m. PST

The Freikorps (QRF) range are 15mm, and extensive for both Native American and US cavalry ranges, including wagons, tents and buffalo
