Excellent painting and composition. Unfortunately, the banner is completely unhistorical. Apart from the fringes and the long cords with tassels, which were not common with 15th century Swiss flags, the design of the banner itself has not existed at the time. What we see is the common banner of the cantons of Ob- and Nidwalden as decreed by the Swiss diet on 12th August 1816… |
