Hello mates,
I'm thinking of making some galleys to play with miniatures of 15 mm. The historical period would be the sixteenth century, the war against the Turks!
I wanted to ask if from your point of view this project see feasible.

Talking with some colleagues have always thought it was great to make approaches in the battles of galleys and there are sufficiente brands of 15 mm miniatures to do it.

What do you think of the idea? Any criticism is very welcome. This is just a draft.

Best regards,
Julian

PS: My English is not very good so when writing not use complex expressions because I can go crazy to interpret, thank you very much in advance!

Uff…

Saludos

I agree, and I have a large collection of Navwar and some Langton 1/1200 galleys waiting for me to get around to them. I think the entire battle of Lepanto could fit on a table in 1/1200 scale.

I'd happily switch to 1/600 if I found nice models, or figured out how to build nice ones from scratch. I think 1/600 would be just small enough for largish fleet actions, but large enough to show off the detail and proportions of the galleys.

1/300 or 15mm would be nice for small actions with just a few ships per player. Small actions like that happened a lot in the era. However, I don't like any of the 15mm galley models available – they don't look anything like the galleys of the period. You said you were going to make your own, so you will probably do better.

Wouldn't a 15mm Galleass be HUGE?!

I have some sympathies for this but I think I would go for 10mm …

I think it is possible but would depend on what you want to do and your table size. If you want to do boarding action then great. If you want to move whole fleets, then not so good.

Where in the Valencia region are you? I live near Gandia

I love the idea, the practical probables of scale.

I picket up two 10mm ACW river ironclad to use with my 15mm ACW games they are very large over a foot (300mm) and they are only Pock Turtles.

I my work as a skirmish game,
Lapanto and over 400 ships, I think you will have your work cut out the number of ships and the space needed.

Thanks for the tips and suggestions.

stecal: thank you for the link.

D6 Junkie: your galleys are great. They are quite playables.

Yellow Admiral: I'm afraid you're right. I'll have to see how to make small-scale galleys to make a playable product. I think scale 1/300 would work well.

Glengarry5: exactly, for example La Real would be 60 cm

Yesthatphil: yes, you're right, even 1/300 scale (6 mm)

gunnerphil : hi gunner, Im from Alicante city. I would like to do medium galleys well defined (aprox. 20cm) but with the option of boarding action.

Mac1638: I suppose to play the battle of Lepanto a very large table would be needed but it could make an approach.

Lepanto is fixation for me, We also did it in 1/1200
