Hello,

With everything melting down merrily all over I figured we might as well take advantage of what we can. Here in the US we're seeing the British Pound slide lower and lower, and I started thinking this might be a good time to pick up some miniatures I've always been curious about but have always shied away from because of the exchange rate. But once I put my mind to it, I came up with startlingly few British miniature manufacturers – certainly a failure of my memory, as I know I've seen many.

So that's why I'm coming to you fine folks for help and inspiration. What excellent miniature manufacturers are there in lovely Avalon that are on the 'I would buy if the darn Pound wasn't so expensive… oh wait!' list? All genres are fair game.

Here is a quick list that I can think of off the top of my head:

GW / Forgeworld (boo hiss)
Hasslefree
Perry
Wargames Foundry
Black Tree Design
Essex

???

Ebor. Their brigade deals lower the price considerably, although they may have "adjusted" their pricing--I thought the foot came out at 88p,but right now they're 94p. Still good value.

jeffreyw311 Oct 2016 9:51 a.m. PST

I think the shipping is actually more of an issue than the exchange rate, but to each his own. grin

Yeah, on my February order to Gripping Beast, Paypal hit me up for $1.47 USD GBPs, last week's order was $1.33 USD and today, I'm seeing $1.22 USD online.

I'm assuming people will come to their senses about this sooner than later?

I can't see any reason why the rate will suddenly improve.

Please send us your money. We're going to need it frown

And now is a great time to book and pay for a UK holiday. A £100.00 GBP / night hotel room would have been ~ $150 USD + a few months ago, now you can have it for ~ $120 USD !

Stay for a week – save $210 USD! Two weeks – $420. USD Think of the figures you could buy with that!!

I've been eyeing Kallistra, but don't think it is going to happen. I like both big boards and height, and that would be a lot.

A lot of this is available as is from their US dealers – save on shipping. My prices reflect the lower exchange rate.

I sell Black Hat, 1st Corps and QRF/Freikorps from the UK along with Magister Militum (3mm, 10mm and 15mm) and Brigade Models.

Oh Bugger11 Oct 2016 1:01 p.m. PST

Good for you Extra Crispy.

I'd also suggest the discerning non British shopper takes a look at Outpost Wargames Service.

jefritrout11 Oct 2016 1:03 p.m. PST

Yes, Mark has actually dropped his prices on English products that he stocks. While I have not been able to take advantage personally, many of my friends have. Mark is a stand up guy to do business with.

Black Tree Design has a US (Texas) address as well a British one.

Warlord sets its own exchange rate and the last time I looked it was still $1.60 USD per Pound. However, they are offering discount coupons.

Your best bet is a company with a UK only shop, your dollar is simply better value. Some larger companies have US and other overseas market options.
Hasslefree seem to be doing a special promotion to appeal to US and EU customers, the figures aren't cheap but they're arguably the best anywhere.

Empress Miniatures Sponsoring Member of TMP12 Oct 2016 12:09 a.m. PST

Well I suppose you had best add Empress Miniatures to the list then ; )

Never been a better time to get top quality at lower prices.

Zargon12 Oct 2016 12:52 p.m. PST

Didn't know the Americans had all that extra cash to spend in this burnt out world economy, I've been saving up to buy overseas too but seems the government I live under is determined to commit economic suicide and create a banana republic, admittedly they have tried very hard to put the cherry on to of the banana split republic for 22 years but I see them achieving it very soon. Mean time I could save for a month of Sundays for the slight blip in the UK currency. But I'm blowing smoke me thinks. Enjoy and buy Gents, I may need the UK to be able to repatriate us soon hah.for me I'd be some Emperess stuff for VBCW and a bunch of perry stuff for Sharp practice 2

The Beast Rampant12 Oct 2016 5:33 p.m. PST

Thunderchild.

Black Tree Design has a US (Texas) address as well a British one.

If you're in the US, keep watch on BTD-US's sales. What you're after will go on sale at some point, and you won't find a better deal anywhere else.
