Could anyone kindly let me know which upcoming conventions and wargame shows, beginning December, or even in January and February 2017, would be appropriate for myself? I'm retired now and have plenty of time on my hands and wish to travel. Best regards, Jabsen

Hello friends, So I have a large (very) collection of 1812 Russians from Old Glory in 15mm mostly unpainted. However, I might be acquiring a 1796 Austrian army so I would like to use whatever I can for Suvarov's 1799 army. I believe the Austrians switched to the helmet during this time, but I am willing to overlook that. The Russians from 1812 though are a bit of a stretch for my OCD. So the question is, what can I keep that will work for 1799? Besides the Cossacks, what else can I salvage? The gunners are wrong, the line infantry and grenadiers obviously wrong. Uhlans? Dragoons? Can the Pavloski Grenadiers be converted into 1799 grenadiers? The Generals? I pretty much have a complete army for 1812. Any hints or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. |

That is quiet a colourful reply! Goodness you sound like an old arch enemy of mine! That's certainly very reassuring. |

Mr Milkshake: Unfortunately, there is nothing that can be salvaged, apart from the Cossacks. Every type of Russian troop changed uniform at least twice between 1799 and 1812. Yes, the Pavlovski retained their mitres, but the uniform itself is completely different (the biggest tell is the backpack). Every other unit type has different headgear, different coat cut, different equipment, and so on. I suppose you can use the cannon and limber-horses. |
