…, the 2nd Division and the End of a 200-year-old Controversy.

"This is the most detailed account of the 2nd Division at Waterloo ever published. It is based on the papers of its commander Sir Henry Clinton and it reveals for the first time the previously unrecognized vital role this division made in the defeat of Napoleon. It explains how the division was placed ahead of the main allied squares thus impeding the charges of the French cavalry, and how the 2nd Division supported the defense of Hougoumont, considered by the Duke of Wellington as the key to his victory on 18 June 1815.

Perhaps the most significant aspect of this book is the description of the defeat of Napoleon's Imperial Guard. Just who and how the incomparable Guard was stopped and then driven from the battlefield is explained in detail. Once and for all, this 200-year controversy is finally resolved"

Two questions:

a) Which was the "controversy"?
b) Anyone have read and have a comment about this book?

Oh please…not again.

The book might discuss their role throughout the battle, but see the title. (ignore the poor idiot on the cover trying to hold his musket that way)

This is the idea that the Guard attack was not stopped by artillery, mud, apathy, mutiny, la traison, Prussian threat, being grossly outnumbered, aliens in saucers, or even Maitland's Guards…..

But instead by Adam's Brigade…the Light Infantry 51st. 52nd and 71st, plus some lads in green, who attacked in flank.

That incredibly stupidly titled book "The Lie of W etc" actually proved really well written and researched, provided you did not reject it at a glance……as I nearly did.

Of course they contributed. The blooming Netherlands folk did, let's face it. Everyone did……

So many rubbish titles recently, even a year on from 2015. They tell us that…..

The KDG single handedly beat Napoleon, 400 men at LHS won the battle, a JFK level of conspiracy has concealed the role of 52nd, there were DBs there (actually those books proved great, but again rubbish titles……).

Add now this…….

This is the same Glover who produced the level of quality of Six Volumes of Correspondence (I have all six) but then also the "Myth and Reality" book, the tabloid version, with the cover showing Ponsonby facing Polish Guard Lancers, as in Bondarachuk……again a great book, but a rubbish cheap title.

Why do they do this? Why these ridiculous claims in the titles, as in a tabloid red top newspaper?

The 'Myth and Reality' tome with it's very good picture (though inaccurate)dust-cover is apt for the title so perhaps was picked for that reason?

Ah, a Conspiracy theory?

The CIA set up an obvious dummy on the Grassy Knoll, with a police badge, to make us think there could not possibly have been a sniper on the Grassy …oh forget it.

I am kidding honestly. LHO did (solo)shoot JFK, Neil Armstrong did land on the Moon, there never were any UFOs, that car crashed in a Paris subway tunnel because of a drunk driver told to drive to fast, Soult was not a double agent, we all know that …

Mind you, the Jack Ruby thing still bothers me…..but weird things happen randomly!

Wow! $1.32 USD on Kindle! The cover looks better on the Kindle version.
