So I've started on James Falkners Ramillies book from the battleground series. It's a short little thing with big letters.

However the book claims he lead a a force of saxons at that battle, but wiki doesn't mention it. And neither does the OOB from the osprey book on said battle. (In fact it doesn't show any saxons there that i could see) tacitus does not mention any saxon troops in that battle.

From my understanding Falkner is an authority on the Spanish Succession. Yet he gives no OOB in this little book.

Might not be his fault. Do any of the books in the series have OOB's? If not, it might be an editorial requirement – like the stupid useless cutaway drawings in the Osprey New Vanguards.

The Saxon Corps with Schulenburg did not arrive until 1707. Could not have been at Ramillies. I guess some know-it-alls do not know it all.

I have his Great & Glorious Days.

I looked for Schulenburg in the index, it says p.102 which is the Ramillies chapter, but I didn't see him in the text.

however it does mention 16 Saxon and Swiss battalions in dutch service under Schultz and Spaar.

I think for Saxons read Hanoverians (well they are in lower Saxony . . )

apparently its available for a penny!!

The book is a good read but I have only ever treated it as such

I have great and glorious days. Good read. But i was hoping this book would give a little more insight into the battle. I its a short book but i did think 120 pages for the battle of ramillies would give more info then the 30ish pages from great and glorious days.

But those 120 are writen in big letters and at least half the book is about other things than the actual battle. So I doubt it says a lot of new stuff.

I also have Neil Littons book which is better with more detail and reasonable OOB, probably the best modern work on the battle.
