OK, even our beloved Mr. Bill is now putting up polls which do not seem to have anything to do with TMP. For me TMP is about miniatures, and gaming (fantasy, SF, historical, etc.) It is not about the subjects of the following polls which are currently running. Would you prefer that the rules about what polls can be put up be more limited? Should Goal Line Technology Be Allowed? Fightin' and Drinkin' Favorite Female Singer (Round 1F) Favorite Dead Politician (Round 2) Favorite Female Singer (Round 1E) Favorite Neil Young Album (Round 1) Favorite Female Singer (Round 1D) Favorite Monty Python Song (Round 2) Favorite Female Singer (Round 1C) Favorite Female Singer (Round 1B) Roman Cavalry Choir Favorite Female Singer (Round 1A) P.S. I know I am old and crochety. |

So what? I like odd polls. |

I don't care. If a Poll Topic interests me I read it and vote. If the Topic holds no interest I ignore it. |

I have more than one facet to my personality so I think I can handle the silly or fun polls. There are some that I can tell that are on topics that don't interest me so I don't open and read them. Gosh, I hope it is OK that I don't read them?!? |

Turned off polls long ago. |

I seem to recall we had a Poll on this subject a few years ago. It lost. Badly. |

There *are* restrictions on poll topics. "Preferred Penis Length On Nude Greek Miniatures" would probably never run. Nor would "Favourite Aureola Diameter On Prostitutes." But our eckectic, whimsical polls are a nice offset to the polls which, while strictly related to gaming, exclude many of us because it just isn't our thing. For example, I can't knowledgably vote in a poll regarding the French Indian War or Agincourt. But I can always vote for a favorite female singer :-) |

The polls are fun. We are a community not a political party. |

Most polls are terribly written and in some way don't pass the logic test. Either the question is flawed or the choice of answers is flawed. An example: what is your favorite vegetable? Answers A) Apple, B) Banana, or C) I don't eat meat. |

They should be limited by our imagination. |
nazrat | 03 Oct 2016 2:56 p.m. PST |
There is absolutely no reason to limit them in any way. Don't like it, don't participate! TMP has Boards about movies, TV, Art, and a whole host of things with which we come into contact in our lives. There is nothing that says it only has to be about Miniatures and Gaming. |

Anybody notice that two of those polls are wargaming polls? The dead politician one is wargame adjacent, as war is an extension of national politics and the nominees are all military leaders with a few notable and very anti-war entries. And even Gandhi was central to the India-Pakistan conflict, even in Nehru didn't make the list. The singer/song ones get disproportionate play in the list because there was wider variety on them. And, honestly, I don't particularly care for the "fanboi" poll. It is wargame adjacent but has far less to do with any game that I would run or participate in than pretty much any of the dead politician nominees. But then again, why should I care that there is a topic on a board that I don't care for? Next thing you know, we're going to be asking the posters on the Pulp board what pulp is … "Preferred Penis Length On Nude Greek Miniatures" would probably never run. Is that because we can't decide on what figure scale or size means? |

It is a gaming site, stick to gaming topics in the polls. |

Ignoring the multiple rounds, the current polls are 12 relevant, 3 not; the completed polls still showing are 38:5. Other than a long spate of female singer ones in the immediate past, or even including them over the longer term, the ratio is fine. Just a few off-wargaming ones sprinkled in. And WRT the "fave fem singer" run, you can roll five 1's in a row. You know it because you've done it. |

I guess I always figured the polls were going to be less topical but I'm not a fan of anything so vague it has to be divided into 12 polls. |
20thmaine | 06 Oct 2016 12:21 p.m. PST |
Preferred Penis Length On Nude Greek Miniatures A) In Scale B) GW Cartoony and oversized C) Sub scale D) Zardoz E) Not a wargamer |
Scorpio | 06 Oct 2016 12:46 p.m. PST |
I don't think they should be limited, but I do wish the Editors would exercise more discretion as to which get run. Because frankly, not all of them need to be polls, and having so much filler out there means polls are waiting over *four years* to run. Which is frankly absurd. |

I regard the polls as the intellectual equivalent of Doritos. Something you enjoy, but not equal to real food. |
Silent Pool | 08 Oct 2016 8:40 p.m. PST |
Yes. They shouldn't name individual TMPers. |
