I've got the first edition of VAS, but never played it…but I'm now looking at it. Question regarding the shooting step and Long and Extreme Ranges on page 8. Weapons fired at Long and Extreme Ranges gain a +1 bonus to their Damage Dice. Just so I'm clear, that's not an error? Doug |

I don't have VaS but it's common in WW1+ naval rules. It represents plunging fire which arcs high and comes down much more vertically. When it does it hits the much more lightly armoured decks so it penetrates rather than hitting the more heavily armoured belt |

Interesting discussion of effect of plunging fire here: combinedfleet.com/f_guns.htm Notice that plunging fire tends to be at longer ranges (20000 yards plus or even more) and little penetration of deck armour at shorter ranges. |
