Greetings,

I am looking for figure recommendations. How do 15mm Old Glory figures stack up? Anyone else use them?

Thanks for any advice.

Do you mean Blue Moon? They are 18mm but great: here's The Cowboys

Thanks for the reply. Yep those are exactly the ones I was considering. I will prolly pick up a pack of the standing as well as a pack of the mounted guys too.

I thought they looked good too, but wanted to get some feedback and to see if anyone had an other recommendations.

The Blue Moon Plains Indians and cavalry opponents are great too in case you are considering that aspect of the West. I can't speak for their Apaches though, I don't own those.

The Blue Moon 15s were the primary figure line that I used when I did my FIW collection… great figures. You can see them in diorama form link

Btw HO scale buildings match up perfectly with all BM figures.

Thanks for the replies, gentlmen.

- mgh good to know. Indeed I do like native tribes so that could be in the cards in the future. I am checking em out now.

- war in 15mm very nice work. I love seeing the possibilities.

-flash, very good pic. i guess the concern would be if I wanted to mix/match with other 15mm figs. I am primarily going to use these figs for skirmish battles using rules with no name, legends of the old west, or maybe even aces and eights (the rpg) so i think it'd be okay with me.

-CPBelt, good to know; that can come in handy.

HO scale buildings are 1/87 BM are near 1/76 1/72 is 20mm so i agree with CPBelt that they wound match up good if base the same way as your mini's

Oh, no, not again. Blue Moon are NOT bigger than HO scale (except maybe some Darkest Africa figures – but those figures might represent Watutsi figures and should be really Tall). They are smaller than 1/72 plastics. I know, I've put them side by side. They may approximate between 1:96 or 1:100 rather than the older and smaller traditional 15 mm which are closer to 1:120. But they are no where near close to 20 mm figures. I know, I've placed them side by side (unless you have some really small 20 mm figures).

And, no, Blue Moon do not generally mix well with any of the smaller "15 mm" figures but you can use Irregular Miniatures figures and maybe Lancashire (don't know if they have any Old West figures, though). However, that has not kept me from having figures from almost every Old West range out there. Just a matter of taste.

Just to keep things straight.

You will not find any range, especially so in 15/18 mm, that offers anything near the variety of figures Blue Moon's Old West offerings provide. So, with your skirmish goal in mind, buy away – heck, they even have the buildings to get you going.

If we assume that figures are scaled against humans with an average height of six feet (72 inches), a 25mm (one inch) figure is 1/72 vertical scale.

Here are mine painted up. Everything is Bluemoon. They make great figures and terrain.

So I already bought them; they're on their way.

Again, thanks for the help everyone. I enjoyed listening to all yr opinions.

WL, where'd you get those building models? Are those blue moon too? Any way they look very nice.

I think I am going to go with TWWNN for the rules. Can't wait to paint them up.

Thanks, all.

WLBartlett06 Oct 2016 8:01 a.m. PST

Yes those are the Blue moon buildings.

dddd9907 Oct 2016 6:49 p.m. PST

Got em the other day. I am pleased with them. I wasn't aware blue moon was a different manufacturer; I thought it was just the name of a different "line" or something. haha but that is ok

Anyway they are very decent looking. I also looked at the blue moon buildings and while I like them I am not desiring to be in the poor house so they will have to wait a little bit.

So overall I am happy with Old Glory and also happy about their speed. I think these will bring me some fun.

Thanks again for all the help everyone. best wishes.

Newline Designs also has a set of wonderful 20mm old west charecters that would probably match up nicely.

dddd9911 Oct 2016 5:15 p.m. PST

Goon, good to know. It also makes me wonder why is there such a scarcity of female gunfighters? I think even a few would help female players maybe wanna get in the action more and that I often play games with family/friends that obv have females involved.

Anyway quick question ( thanks so much for the already awesome help ) -- if I were to base them on SAE #10 washers would I be out of line?

Also, another rookie Q, what do I do about the figures that are meant to be on horseback? I rec'd them unattached. Am I supposed to paint them separately and then attach via what? superglue?

thanks again comrades in arms.

Best 15/18mm out there IMHO.
