Hi all, I hope I am on the right Board if not please accept my apologies. It is not Wargaminig related as such but I decided to show you some WIP pictures of a Figure, which is part of another large Scale Miniature Commission I am tackling in the moment. These are the first bigger scale figures I painted in over 15 years. The first one is suppose to represent a Sergeant of the 79th Cameron Highlander during the Napoleonic Wars in 75mm from Alexandros Models. A beautiful figure but I really have to adjust my painting techniques a little bit after painting so many smaller scale models over the years. There are some parts I would have prefered to have left of for the sake of access while painting but due the gluing and filling of gaps, I decided to assemble as much as possible of the figure. I did however cut and pinned the Spontoon as it would have been near impossible to paint with that pike sticking out. I will glue it back once the figure is mainly finished. This is a very high quality sculpt and cast which is making painting it a lot easier but surprisingly not quicker, lol. Due to the size of the miniature every detail is so much more magnified that I need to apply a lot more care, using various smoother layers of highlights & shading but also washes and glazes. My apologies for the lack of more detailed WIP's. As usual, I keep forgetting to take more pictures of the progress but once I am in the swing of things I just can not stop until I finished the part I am painting ::) ;) Here is also a link to some more pictures: link
Well, I hope you like the look of him so far. All Comments are very welcome. ;) Kind regards Sascha |

This is not THE Sascha is it? Please let it be…………. Whatever, we cannot let the "dice throwers" totally dominate the forum. there must be a place for those of us who paint units that either sit on a shelf, or, in my case, sit in the dark in plastic boxes in the attic ignored and unloved. You remembered the sascha, sorry I meant sash, over the shoulder for an NCO………. Brilliant. We need a new forum for larger scale or just exhibition figures. |

Stop! Stop! You're making me feel so inadequate!! Absolutely magnificent job, particularly on that complex Cameron of Erracht tartan. (They would ask for one of the hardest of of all regimental setts to paint.) |

I see that there are two location holes on the front of the kilt. Please tell me that it isn't for a sporran? Paul :) |

Awesome work, really really nice. I love the reds. Its a hard colour to do, but you've done it really nicely. :D |

Thank you all for the kind comments and remarks. It is really appreciated. I am a bit apprehensive with these bigger scale miniatures as I am a little out of practice ;-) after painting so many 28mm minis over the years but a nice sculpt like this one does help with the painting though :-D @dibble Well…yes it is actually. I just kept it off to make it easier for me to paint the tartan on the kilt ;-) Kind regards Sascha |

The painting is very good and the figure as a whole is coming along fine with nicely rendered tartan. If I were making a similar figure, I would fill the holes, get rid of the straps and not fit the sporran. But seeing as it's a commission, I suppose it doesn't really matter. Paul :) |
