How long is reasonable to wait for someone to pay for an item when they have said they want something before putting it back up for someone else to purchase. I ask this because I have had a few too many people jump right in to call dibs and then say wait a day or 2 for payment then after non payment and chasing e mails finally message me they do not want it after all. I am not really having issues currently but I would like to know what the community sees as being fair.

72 hours, MAX.

However…Feel free to let the (potential) buyer know that there are other people waiting to buy, if that is indeed the case. If so, 48 hours.

Two days, unless they propose and you agree to something else, such as I've had a couple people ask, "Can you wait until I get paid on Friday?"

In your sale agreement when you accept the purchaser request, just specify how much time you are willing to wait. Three days seems like a common number. If they ask for more time and you agree, that's fine. Just let them know that it will be made available to the next buyer after that time, up front, and inform them of such at the time it happens, should they not pay.

72 hours sounds about right. By that time it has dropped off the board and you will need to relist.

I'm I little (and only a little) surprised that this is an issue.

Bashytubits, I hear ya! 72 hours sounds good to me. It's what I've done…

After initial contact (email or PM) I wait 2 days before sending an email reminder.

If, after 2 (more) days – no contact, I send a 'Transaction Cancelled' email and file it in a folder.

That said, it's only happened twice here on TMP.

Yes, if the buyer has not contacted or sent money in 72 hours, re-list.
