Just finished Tsar Alex and FW III sharing a ride in a Britschka. (A what, I hear you ask? Basically a larger Landau, but with the potential to cover the front half (helps to hide that both are legless, literally, and a top cover for rear only).

Background is Heidelberg, of course (but you knew that). Figures are AB and all in 15/18mm which I think is 1/100 now.

I wanted to photo this before grassing the base and sending it on its journey to the land of Oz.

Photography is so cruel. FW III has a Zapata moustache, which I never saw naked eye and the yellow black interface looks like I was drunk when I did it (I was not……one pint only, as I worked, Julian has seen the picture)

Great work.
How did you make the ropes for the horses?

They are something called twisted braiding needles, basically just twisted wire easily cut; I have no idea what they are meant to be for, but I think something to do with sewing? Tried to find out on Google…many manufacturers….dirt cheap, but no one says what they are for!

I think that they are for threading pearls or other beads onto string.

Oh yes, I read it wrong. They are "beading" needles, which happen to be "braided". Well, the thickest are ideal for 15/18mm scale but a bit thin for 28mm usage.

thanks…I was wondering

Phatt Rhatt28 Sep 2016 5:33 a.m. PST

Thank you, what would be good to use for 28mm?

Exceptional work once again deadhead :) . Speechless :)

Cheers……… hope it finds a use for you.

I will fix FW III's moustache before posting!

the ropes? In 28mm I use brass picture wire. Any hardware shop will sell and usually comes in two thicknesses. The finer is easier to work with and more to scale. It does tend to splay out when cut, but superglue before sectioning prevents that.

I have used it on all my larger scale coaches. Here is the Malmaison one I showed before, to demonstrate the ropes;

Ohlala! Really great work Deadhead!!
You have a flare for 18mm Naps, you know it! And whats more, you do great work in that size.
Come on over to the small side, the force is soooo much stronger here:=

Imagine, you can start fielding some serious numbers of guard cavalry in that size…

Thinking has my recent experience of AB figures set me, admit it I do.

The castings are incredibly detailed, proportions are far better than many 28mm figures, but, best of all for me, is that so many figures are presented in less heroic poses.

Charging hell for leather is fine, but I think so many cavalry figures look best at the halt, shouldered sword and in full rig.

I have run out of ideas for carriages now. Massena at Wagram does not appeal, no one has any idea of Joseph's coach at Vittoria, Boney's Coronation or Wedding Coach too ornate…….. an Austrian might be fun

and the last picture I promise. Julian wanted it based on grass, I wanted gravel. I am glad I gave in…it would have been murder.

The bare ends snap off and are just for transport and securing it

This is just a flash image, with no depth of focus, but also suggests I need to change my mouse mat. UK readers will understand…….

and apologies to everyone outside the UK who has not the slightest interest in football (sorry …you might call it soccer….yuk…)

This has nothing to do with Boney and his era.

The coach is far too wide I now realise. I redid my calculations to convert to 1/100 scale for a Britschka. The AP dimensions are right……the width is way out. Sorry Julian. How I wish I had never posted that last picture!

Please feel free to report and complain. Dawghouse here I come…

It's worth it.

Snag is next game is up here, where I live…and I have four tickets for the tiny away contingent. The forecast is for a riot…some bad feeling built up…..

Must paint those Genie and Marins on the Pont du Sambre at Charleroi!!!!

Sorry for the short derail.

(sorry …you might call it soccer….yuk…)

Soccer was the original name, and the upper class name for the sport.
