I was wondering if anyone might know what colours were carried by the Baden infantry during the FPW? One source says white with various coast of arms, another shows a red flag with yellow corner "rays". Could both be right and the white flag is the Leibfahne, with the other being the regimentsfahne? Thanks. |

Hi there, Major B! As always, there is never a simple answer to a question like this – but you are probably used to that by now! Your red and yellow flag is a unique design, and is carried by the first battalion of IR1. All the rest are variations on gold monograms either in a green wreath or resting on assorted greenery. Fortunately, some years back I provided the info for Pendraken to produce an accurate sheet of Baden flags. If you go to their site, click on flags, then nineteenth century, you will see Baden. You can get up a reasonable sized image which, although having Pendraken written across it, will give you a good idea of the relevant designs, and which battalion carried them. Good hunting, Mollinary |

Thanks for the tip. Are those oak leaves that are behind Frederick I's Monogram? |

No, all models, including the later 1887 muster, either lay on, or are surrounded by a wreath of, laurel branches. Hope this helps, Mollinary |
