I know about Old Glory, but I don't want to buy 30 figures. Looking for packaging in the 6 to 12 or 15 figures range. Thanks!

Not to denigrate anybody, but for the price of getting, say,Galloping Major to the US,you could buy the beautiful 40mm figs from Miniature Service Center, and pick out exactly the figures you want:

If it has to be 25mm,and you like to paint, I'd say go with Old Glory(one of their better lines,IMO), paint 'em up, and sell the extras. That pays for your collection.

Conquest are stunning.

nazrat20 Sep 2016 6:27 p.m. PST

Conquest. Warlord sells the entire line. I'd buy direct from Conquest but last I looked most of the models weren't in stock.

Galloping Major

Rob Richardson20 Sep 2016 11:27 p.m. PST

No offense to the other manufacturers, but I agree with EC and Nazrat. The Conquest are hands down the best sculpted, most anatomically correct, most historically accurate figures available for FIW. Compared to them other lines are caricatures.

Now having said that I do have a select few Old Glory natives, ones complement the pose variety of Conquest. I like the crawling, crouching sneaking and casualty figures.

I also have a few civilian and frontier types from non-FIW lines (Fife and Drum, Perry, Eureka, Foundry). The clothing details are "close" and very minor conversions help.

Does Conquest have a large variety of figures or not?

gbowen21 Sep 2016 2:25 p.m. PST

Value for money Redoubt, cheaper than Galloping Major and the same size. A big range, most are good but they do have the odd poor sculpt.

nevinsrip22 Sep 2016 7:55 p.m. PST

Redoubt was sculpted by different sculptors, so you have sizes all over he map, generally on the larger side. I mix them with GM and they blend nicely.

Conquest are nice sculpts. I met Eric Roof at an Historicon when he first started his line. I bought doubles of all his packs then and continued, until he seemed to fade out of the picture. I'm not sure if he is still involved. Did he sell out to Warlord?

I'm also not sure what qualifications Rob R has to state:

"The Conquest are hands down the best sculpted, most anatomically correct, most historically accurate figures available for FIW. Compared to them other lines are caricatures."

If that's you opinion that's fine. But, I have to question
what qualifies you as an expert in the areas of sculpting miniature figures, human anatomy, the Native NA Indians of the Northeast in the 1750's and 60's and caricatures in general.

Your opinion is fine, but it's not the last word on anything here.

Actually, nevin, from a blog that someone shared with me on a follow-up TMP question, I was looking at Redoubt and Galloping Major – together they seem to provide everything I want, and appeared to fit together nicely, so it's good to hear that you use them that way as well. I do like the look of the Conquest, but their selection is pretty narrow and pretty standard, like several other lines. That's what I liked about GM and Redoubt when I started looking carefully at them – they filled holes other lines don't even approach. Thanks for the input!

I haven't been able to figure out which tribe Redoubt's Native Americans are supposed to represent – I don't get that hairstyle on almost all of their figures.

Another vote for Galloping Major. The sculpts are beautiful and they are fun to paint.

spontoon28 Sep 2016 4:07 p.m. PST

Really too broad a question. Some of Old Glory's figs are great. Some are horrible. Depends on the sculptor. The RAFM figs are the same. Those sculpted by Bob Murch are great, the rest of the range are pretty basic, some horrible.

I second getting 40mm. Skirmish level and great detail to boot.

Hafen von Schlockenberg30 Sep 2016 10:51 a.m. PST

On the 40mm front, don't forget Sash and Saber. The FIW is Chris's best selling line I believe:

These are slightly smaller than Doug's. I don't know if anyone mixes them. Also, they come in packs of 20. But still,at $45 USD per pack, they're cheaper than many 25mm. And very nice figures they are. Be prepared to do some work on the Indians--separate heads, torsos, weapons, accouterments, feathers. . .but adding up to a huge variety.

Really like redoubt…Yes there are odd sculpts and communication is bad. but the range is have very few holes and some of their later sculpts paint up very nicely. They go well with galloping major. Aw miniatures also make some nice figures and Andrew will help you 24/7. Got a few shots on my blog if you want to see some painted

BTW, I'm in Pennsylvania too!

Miniaturepainter17 Nov 2016 10:51 a.m. PST

Hmmm once again bought from redoubt…..welll I really like their huge range. Well got some totally nice indians with torches…….but with a totally unacceptable flash….might be bad sculpts or their moulds are getting old for some of the first codes released.
Second code where coureurs de bois( forest runners) much better no flash nice figures….but with one rifle broken. Well all companies I usually place orders with are fast to correct faults…. Redoubt not. Absolutely no communication tried 3 times no response…really dont know why the have. A customer email.

Well ….disappointed. Praised their line before but just make me place future orders at AW miniarutes or galloping majors. They take care of customers.

I have the Conquest, Eureka, AW Miniatures, and the Blue Moon sets.

I really like the Blue Moon "Drums in the Ohio Valley" line (link) with its wounded Braddock, young colonial George, Grenadiers, French, Frontiersmen, and Indians after the Old Glory Army discount. They are boxed 12 to a box and work out about $1.50 USD a figure. Matching American Colonial Villagers are in the "Things that Go Bump in the Night line".

Kimber VanRy08 Dec 2016 8:40 p.m. PST

I just picked up the Blue Moon box of British marching. Great sculpts but they are a fair amount larger than my Conquest figs and I filed the bases down to reduce height where I could. They're all based and primed and after they're done that Braddock set is on the list next.
